Anyone else seeing similar?
I just got a big order back from BGS and I’m shocked at how low the corner and surface subgrades are across the board. I know they weren’t gonna be 10s—a lot of these are thicker cards—but I’ve done BGS enough to have at least a decent sense of what to expect. These seem at least 0.5-1.0 points lower on corner subgrades than I expected and it’s pulling the overall grade down accordingly. Did BGS decide to be harsher in its grading recently?
Here’s an example of a
2021-22 Elite Luka auto that, to my eye, should’ve been at least a 9 or even a 9.5 (ignore the dust on the table below the photo) corner and surface subgrade.

2023.03.25 22:25 SouthNagsHead Murdaugh Estate Auction Items are Now on Ebay
| Law & Crime- Items from Murdaugh estate pop up on eBay: Report (msn.com) “A Murdaugh Crossbow” — supposedly the one seen in police body camera footage at the property — and taken from the Moselle property gunroom is listed with an opening bid of $14,000. A jacket belonging to Alex Murdaugh is listed starting at $275. https://preview.redd.it/udis7u2rdypa1.png?width=2065&format=png&auto=webp&s=47cc71c0674e69d17101687ad51ccfb2b1a85d24 Items from the Murdaugh family’s Moselle home are up for auction in Georgia. (Screengrab from FOX News 18 Savannah) Those are just some of the items purported to be from Murdaugh’s Moselle estate that are popping up on eBay a day after a large auction was held that the sellers confirmed included Murdaugh family items, South Carolina’s ABC4 reported. In addition to the crossbow and jacket, a decoy duck is also listed on the site, with a current bid of $82. Related Coverage: An auction house in Georgia was selling a collection of furniture and other items from the Murdaugh family estate on Thursday and posted photos on social media that appeared to show some of the Murdaugh items. “Here is a glimpse into a prominent estate picked up in Colleton County, South Carolina,” the post reads. “We still have a lot of setting up to do, but we can’t wait to see everyone Thursday night!” The items up for sale have been culled from the family’s former hunting lodge, known locally as “Moselle.” Would-be buyers bid on a red leather chair and ottoman set, a red leather sofa, a collection of monogrammed pillows, a series of green-and-brown dishes with rabbit and deer decorations on them, lamps made out of dead turtle shells, and several animal skulls and heads including deer antlers, longhorn horns, and a trophy mount, according to images posted by the auction house. The photographs of the pillows, in particular, offer tell-tale evidence of who they formerly belonged to. The monograms show the letters “MMB” in succession. Monogramming standards often place the final initial in the middle of a group of three, and the “M” in the center appears to be the largest letter on each embroidered pillow. Margaret “Maggie” Kennedy Branstetter Murdaugh, 52, was killed along with her youngest son, Paul Terry Murdaugh, 22, at Moselle on June 7, 2021. The pair were repeatedly shot to death near the dog kennels, several yards away from the main house, by Richard Alexander “Alex” Murdaugh, 54, using at least two long guns. Earlier this month, Alex Murdaugh was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences by Judge Clifton Newman for the murder of his wife and son. He is currently in the process of appealing his conviction. submitted by SouthNagsHead to MurdaughFamilyMurders [link] [comments] |
2023.03.25 22:22 AltruisticEnd9 Postseason Paths: Lessons from Denver Sports Teams
TL;DR: We should want all the smoke! Stop trying to scheme ways to avoid teams. Greatness comes from overcoming adversity in the playoffs.
As the postseason approaches, a lot of the discourse has now turned to how we hope the standings in the West will shake out. Much of the focus has been on crafting the easiest path possible for the Nuggets to win a championship, and maybe even figuring out if we can intentionally lose games to manipulate the standings. Personally, I think this is a mistake.
Look, I get it. Nugglyfe has sucked. The Nuggets postseason history consists of a lot of first round exits and four losses for the conference championship. We are the most successful NBA franchise to never make the Finals. This is the best Nuggets team we've ever had and we don't want to lose. The playoffs are scary. I'm getting anxious just thinking about it.
But I desperately want for us to play the best teams and the best players possible, and especially the teams that we already have a history with. I want to play a fully healthy Lebron-led Lakers team in the first round. I want to play a fully healthy KD-led Suns, Kwahi-led Clippers, or dynasty Warriors team in the second and third rounds, depending on which of those teams finish four, five, and six. And then I want to play the Bucks in the Finals. Those five teams have every Finals MVP since 2011 Dirk. BRING THEM ON!
To be clear, we could certainly lose. Hell we'd probably be underdogs against some of those teams. But the very best part of being a sports fan is when your team takes on playoff adversity and overcomes it; when we knock off reigning champions and topple dynasties; when we shut up all of the haters and doubters forever.
I'll go through the postseason history of the other Denver sports teams to illustrate this. Let yourself remember what these were like. In every example, a group of guys came together to play for each other and represent us. The entire city of Denver became electric and connected. And six times, a trophy was raised in front of a sprawling crowd of half a million people in Civic Center Park.
The Championships:
1996 Avs- This season is a bit of an anomaly, with the Avs winning a championship in their first year in Denver. We were the second seed with 104 points, and the playoff path included six-game wins over the Canucks and Blackhawks in the first two rounds, with a dominant four game sweep over the Panthers for the Cup. But the crowning achievement that I will forever love about this team is that we beat the Red Wings in six games in the Western Conference Finals. The 1996 Red Wings had one of the greatest regular seasons of all time with 131 points (!), but the Avs slammed the door shut on them. This series also kicked off the Avs v Red Wings rivalry from 1996-2002, which is one of the greatest rivalries of all-time in professional team sports, if not the greatest.
1997 Broncos- It might be easy to forget now, but this was a fantastic playoff run. Due to a brutal last-second Week 12 loss to Kansas City, the Broncos were a wild-card team with a 12-4 record. We easily dispatched the Jaguars in the first game, avenging the loss from the previous year. Then we beat the first seed Chiefs on the road in a game where we were outplayed, but not outmatched. We defeated the Jerome Bettis Steelers on the road. Then we took down the reigning champion Brett Favre/Reggie White Packers in a superb Super Bowl. We were 11 point underdogs. We were only the second wild card team to win the Super Bowl at the time. We ended the NFC's 13 years of crushing dominance. But Terrell Davis ran for 157 yards and 3 TD's and we beat them. John Elway finally got his ring.
1998 Broncos- I think this is the exception that proves the rule. After a regular season where we started 13-0, we were the number one seed and big favorites. In the playoffs, we dominated against inferior competition. We beat the Dan Marino Dolphins, but they weren't great and we won 38-3. We beat the Bill Parcells Jets, but they had six turnovers and gave away the game. Then we beat the Falcons in a game that was never close. BUT, we could have played one of the greatest offensive teams of all time in the Randy Moss Vikings that year. Now we'll never know who would have won that hypothetical Super Bowl. I obviously think that we would have, but we don't know. Instead we played Chris Chandler and the freshly arrested Eugene Robinson. Believe me, I'm not trying to diminish this championship at all. It was amazing that Elway got to walk off as back-to-back champion. But I'm just saying that the 1997 Super Bowl means a lot more to me.
2001 Avs- This team was magisterial. In the regular season, the Avs won the President's Trophy, Joe Sakic won the Hart Trophy, and we had six of the twelve starting All-Stars after we picked up Rob Blake. In retrospect, I'm a little bummed that we didn't play the Red Wings in the playoffs this year. BUT, this team still faced adversity in the playoffs. After sweeping the Canucks, we beat a scrappy Kings team in a grueling seven-game series. We avoided the Stars in the conference finals, instead beating the Blues in five games. BUT, then we were treated to one of the best Stanley Cup Finals of all time against the reigning champion dynasty Devils. It was Patrick Roy v Martin Brodeur, arguably the two greatest goalies of all time. Both teams were the number one seed in their conference, the only time that's happened since 1989. The series went a full seven games. It was absolutely sensational. And Sakic handing the Cup to Ray Bourque is unambiguously one of the greatest moments in sports history.
2015 Broncos- This season sucked lol. But honestly, it's probably my favorite. A disappointing 2014 finish led to a head coaching change. Peyton Manning's clearly deteriorating body caused him to have the worst season of his career and he missed six games. But thanks to one of the greatest defenses ever, the Broncos entered the playoffs as the one seed. Then we went on what should be heralded as one of the best postseason runs ever. We came from behind with eleven points in the last three minutes to beat the Big Ben Steelers. In the final chapter of Manning v Brady, we won the AFC Championship over the reigning champion dynasty Patriots in a game that came down to a defensive stop on a last-second failed two point conversion attempt. This might have been the greatest game of Gronk's career and we still beat them. Then we emphatically smacked down the 15-1 MVP Cam Newton Panthers, with Von Miller's two strips sacks essentially winning the game. Nobody picked us to win, and I mean nobody. But we were better and we won. DeMarcus Ware finally got his ring, Von Miller is a Bronco forever, and Peyton Manning got to walk off as a champion. Pure unadulterated greatness.
2022 Avs- My god, how fun was this run? Entering the playoffs as one seed with 119 points (but not the President's Trophy), the Avs were favored to win the West. But there was still A LOT of adversity to overcome. After handily sweeping the Matt Duchene Predators, the Avs played the tough physical, recent champion, Ryan O'Reilly Blues in the second round, where we had lost three straight years. Then the series became about so much more with the Binnington nonsense. The Game 4 Nazem Kadri hat trick, and the love we gave him back home in Game 5, will always hold a special place for me. Then Darren Helm's last-second series-winning goal was the most incredible combination of elation and relief. We swept the Oilers in a fun conference finals. Then we took on the two-time reigning champion (arguably dynasty) Lightning in an incredible Stanley Cup finals, with Kadri coming back from injury to get the overtime game-winning goal in the pivotal Game 4. Kadri is an Av forever, MacKinnon and Landeskog finally got their rings, and Cale Makar might be the best defensemen ever.
Lesson- All championships are amazing and incredible and wonderful. But they are even just a little bit better when your team faces adversity, takes on your rivals, and beats the best players on the best teams.
Won the Conference, Lost the Championship:
1977 Broncos- Craig Morton and the Orange Crush Defense went on a magical run through the Bradshaw/Steel Curtain dynasty Steelers and the John Madden reigning champion Oakland Raiders, before losing to the Staubach/Doomsday Defense Dallas Cowboys. This set the foundation for the Broncos to become such a successful franchise.
1986/1987/1989 Broncos- THE DRIVE. THE FUMBLE. John Elway still officially owns the city of Cleveland. There were other playoff games, including wins over the Patriots, Oilers, and Steelers, and Super Bowl losses to the Phil Simms Giants, Joe Gibbs R*dskins, and Montana/Rice dynasty 49ers, respectively. But all that matters now are the three insane, mythical, and historic AFC Championship wins over the Browns. The entire city of Cleveland didn't recover until 2016.
2007 Rockies- ROCKTOBER! The history of the Rockies has been bad. But in a month for the ages, they won 21 of 22 games and swept seven playoff games to win the NL pennant. No team had swept two playoff series like that before. And it included beating the Phillies, who won the 2008 World Series and the 2009 NL pennant. This was the crowning achievement for our boy Todd Helton, who'd better be in the mf-ing HOF next year. The Rockies were swept by the David Ortiz (arguably dynasty) Red Sox in the World Series, but that's not what I remember about this season.
2013 Broncos- After the most ridiculously amazing regular season of offensive football ever, we went into the playoffs as the one seed and presumptive favorites. Then we took on division rival Philip Rivers Chargers and dynasty Tom Brady Patriots. The Broncos mostly controlled both games, but had to withstand furious fourth-quarter comeback attempts. Another chapter was added to Manning v Brady, one of the greatest personal rivalries in the history of team sports. Everything went wrong in the Super Bowl, but I don't think that diminishes the greatness of this season.
Lesson- Rings culture is dumb and greatness can come in many forms, including overcoming playoff adversity to win your conference.
Bitter, Terrible, Awful, Crushing Defeats:
1996 Broncos- Thanks to the emergence of Terrell Davis, the Broncos were the number one seed all year and were widely expected to win the Super Bowl. But they were beaten in the first game by the Jaguars, who were only in the second year of their existence. This was an historic and cataclysmic loss. BUT, this loss was a huge part of what propelled the team forward to back-to-back championships.
1997/2002 Avs- Unbelievably frustrating losses to the Red Wings in the Western Conference finals. The Red Wings would go on to win the Stanley Cups both years. But the best rivalries pit greatness against greatness, with each side winning some and losing some.
2012 Broncos- I'm not going to lie, this one still hurts. After the year of Tebow and the magnificent overtime win by Demaryius Thomas (RIP brother), the Broncos became Peyton Manning's team. The most balanced team of the Manning-as-a-Bronco era went into the playoffs as the number one seed, having won eleven games in a row. In what was objectively an incredible game, and subjectively the worst game ever, we lost to the Ravens in the first game. Ugh I can still see Rahim Moore's outstretched arm. The Ravens went on to win the Super Bowl.
2021 Avs- After two second round exits that were fairly excusable for one reason or another, the Avs entered the playoffs with the President's Trophy and a four game sweep of the Blues in the first round. In the second round, the Avs went up 2-0 on the Vegas Golden Knights and looked ready to roll. But then they lost four straight games. There were no excuses. We just lost. God this one stung. Then the Knights didn't even win the next round either. BUT, this loss was a huge part of what propelled the team forward to the Cup last year.
Lesson- It's entirely possible that your team could suffer a catastrophic loss in the first round. We could have a disappointing loss in the second round. We could lose the conference championship, and it could even be to a bitter rival. BUT THAT IS NOT THE END OF THE STORY.
Nuggets Outlook:
The championship window is wide open for at least 3-5 years, if not much longer. We have the greatest basketball player in the world. Jokic is only now entering his prime and he'll be a Nugget until he retires. We have an incredible starting five that is arguably the best in the league. Jamal is 26, signed for three years, and probably isn't going anywhere either. MPJ is 24 and signed for five years. Aaron Gordon is 27 and signed for four years (player option in fourth year). KCP is 30 and signed for the three years (player option is third year). No matter what happens this postseason, it will not be the end of their story.
This core is also already battle-tested. We've gone through the bubble run, making history by coming back from two 3-1 deficits. Bubble Jamal against the Jazz might have been the greatest first round in NBA history. We overcame peak Damian Lillard without Jamal two years ago. We took a game off of the dynasty Warriors with a frontcourt of Facu and Austin Rivers last year. This. Team. Is. Very. Very. Very. Good. I have no doubt that this team has the talent and experience to win a championship.
Bottom Line: Believe in this team. Do not stop believing when we face adversity. Embrace the doubt and the anxiety and the pain, because it makes the summit that much sweeter. We cannot control who we play in these playoffs. But we should want to take on the best players on the best teams, so that we can take them on and beat them. Denver teams are winners. We can win. We will win. I believe.

2023.03.25 22:21 guvnor-78 Help please: DS918+ SHR adding 4th drive to Vol, drive 2 gone critical
Hi Synology community. I need some help and advice please. It seems one of my drives is crapping out big-time in the middle of adding a new drive to the volume. Argghh!
Here's the setup: - Hardware: DS918+ 4 bay, new Jan 2020. 16GB Physical memory. Two 500GB nVME drives as cache for Volume 1.
- Drives: Drive 1 & 2 are Seagate IronWolf 8TB (non-pro) ST8000VM004-2M2101, new Jan 2020. Drive 3 is Seagate IronWolf 8TB (non-pro) ST8000VM004-2M2101, added to Volume 1 Sept 2021. Drive 4 ST8000VM004-2M2101, added to Volume 1 Friday 24 March 2023.
- DSM: Latest version of DSM, 7.1.1 Update 4.
- Configuration: All drives are on single volume. Flat File Backup via USB of one of the largest folders. I'm a bit exposed, let's set that aside - cover in Question 2.
- Environment: The unit is in a cool room away from living areas with a fairly stable temp, fans are on Full Speed Mode (I swapped them out for quiet fans ages ago). Drives sit at 30-33 degrees C depending on activity.
Now, the issue. - Health of drives, Historically: Monthly health checks of the drives have consistently indicated full health. I've checked the logs and there was a single I/O error on Drive 1 & Drive 2 back in 2021.
- New Drive Introduced 2 days ago: I added the fourth drive on Friday, which was initialised and is in the process of being added to the SHR. As of this morning it's at 65%.
- Danger Danger - drive 2 is Failing!: Meanwhile, this morning around 0430hrs this morning a swathe of logs and notifications for Drive 2 with I/O errors. It's swiftly escallating past "run S.M.A.R.T. extended test and act on the diagnosis", and gone straight to "Drive 2 on DS918+ is damaged and in critical status. Back up your data immediately and then replace the drive" by 0745 this morning. "Oh Dear!".
QUESTION 1: As the NAS is in the middle of dynamically adding Drive 4 to the SHR, can I remove and replace Drive 2? If so, do I do this as a hot-swap? Is data at risk. As an aside, I can now see the case for the PRO version of these drives, with the five year warranty and the data recovery service! I did think "oh, given their age is about 22,000 hrs I should be replacing Drive one and two later this year, before they give me grief". Seems that wasn't soon enough!
Meanwhile I'm going to quickly restart the DS213j I have with a pair of 4TB drives as a temporary liferaft for the business and photos stuff.
QUESTION 2: I start up the 'liferaft' in about ten mins - what's the best action to get data from my DS918+ onto the DS213j? Is it via File Vault, or something else? The switches are connected on gig-e to a Cisco Gig-e switch (two connections for the 918+, one for the 213j)
Thanks ya'll for your expert advice, in advance!

2023.03.25 21:42 Chaotic-Byte Why the native port of "Life Is Strage: Before The Storm" doesn't work on Linux, and how to 'fix' it
I recently took my blog offline, but I still want some things to stay online for those who may be interested. The blogpost was from 21 January 2023, but since then nothing has changed.
Note: The issue (and solution) described below is reproducible as of 25 March 2023, on Ubuntu 22.04. The game version is "Life is Strange: Before the Storm v1.0.1". If the problem gets fixed at some point, I'll hopefully remember to update this.
What the hell is going on?
The other day, around Christmas 2022, I finally got around to playing a game from the Life is Strange series, after watching the Let's Play years before. As a Linux gamer, I usually check
https://protondb.com first to see if the game is even running on Linux. I was very delighted to see that the game is available natively for Linux, so doesn't require Proton as a compatibility layer.
So off I went to the shopping cart, for some reason again gave my PayPal data to Valve, and clicked on "Install". Only a few days later the game was downloaded, and I clicked "Play" in joyful anticipation of the upcoming mental pain.
Now the following happened: A dark, voidful window popped up, remained for a few hundred milliseconds, and disappeared. I tried again. And again. It didn't help.
Wow, the game is good. Not yet started, but is already killing me.
Let's take a look at the logs
Reading logs helps. But where are they? That's a good question. After a Bloß wo sind die? Gute Frage. After some pointless search - because I found logs, but not the right ones - I decided to start the game with the following Steam launch options:
%command% > ~/lislog.txt 2>&1
The strange structure after %command% ensures that all terminal output is written to ~/lislog.txt - both standard output (>) and error messages (2>&1).
At the end of the file I found the following: /[...]/steamapps/common/Life is Strange - Before the Storm /bin/LifeIsStrangeBTS: symbol lookup error: /[...]/steamapps/common/Life is Strange - Before the Storm/bin/LifeIsStrangeBTS: undefined symbol: __libc_dlopen_mode, version GLIBC_PRIVATE
A error that has to do with glibc? Oh dear.
(GlibC is a free software library for GNU/Linux systems that contains some of the most important APIs for programming software on Linux systems.)
Maybe it's my setup?
My first thought was: "Maybe my Arch Linux is so screwed up by now that my GlibC version is broken?"
So I decided to test the whole thing on Ubuntu 22.10. But that didn't change anything. So I also tried the Snap and Flatpak version of Steam, hoping to get the game to run. Without success.
So it didn't seem to be my setup.
The Cause
I started a little internet research and experimented around until I found out the following:
- The bug occurs when the launcher ("Game Options Dialog"), which Feral Interactive found necessary, starts, not the game itself
- The game was primarily ported to Ubuntu 18.04 by Feral Interactive, which uses an older version of GlibC. However, GlibC has had some API changes since then, affecting the __libc_dlopen_mode function among others. The symbol was made private with the Commit 7a5db2e82fbb6c3a6e3fdae02b7166c5d0e8c7a8 - so it cannot be used anymore. As a result, the launcher crashes.
The Solutíon
A user in a Steam thread suggested setting GameOptionsDialogShouldShow to 0 in the preferences file at ~/.local/share/feral-interactive/Life is Strange Before the Storm/preferences, but that didn't work for me.
So another solution is required:
The launcher needs functions that no longer exist --- wait, no, they do exist. Only they are called differently now. So you could build a small but nice software library that wraps the function for us. Fortunately, it already exists,
hier. It was written for a different game and for Fedora 35, but that doesn't matter in this case.
Here is the code of the above repository:
// File :libc_dlopen_mode.c // Author :mouse197410 // Created :Mon Dec 6 01:53:56 2021 #include __attribute__((__symver__("[email protected]_PRIVATE"))) void* libc_dlopen_mode(const char *filename, int flags) { return dlopen(filename, flags); } __attribute__((__symver__("[email protected]_PRIVATE"))) void *libc_dlsym(void *restrict handle, const char *restrict symbol) { return dlsym(handle, symbol); }
It is now sufficient to download the repo, compile the library via make (install build-essential or similar beforehand), and copy the resulting liblibc_dlopen_mode.so somewhere where the game can read it, preferably to /uslocal/lib/.
Afterwards, this library must preloaded by adjusting the Steam launch options for the game:
LD_PRELOAD=/path/to/liblibc_dlopen_mode.so %command%
Now the game (launcher) should start, and the first thing you'll be asked for is consent for collecting your data.
Always fun to report bugs
You might think that's it. But no. As a good IT guy, I naturally report such errors (solutions) to the developers. In this case it was the support of Feral Interactive.
It could have been worse. I sent a detailed mail to the support, whereupon they first asked for further system information. I was kind enough to send them this (in this case irrelevant) information. After that, I was sent a list of possible solutions to try out. I would like to go into this briefly.
Please could you first try deleting the Preferences file? [...] Once in the location, drag the file named Preferences to your Trash, then launch Steam and then the game. [...] This may clear the issue that you are seeing.
It is not clear to me how this could solve the problem. I have already described the problem in detail in my first mail. Nevertheless, you never know, I followed the instructions - and oh wonder: doesn't work.
If you continue to experience a problem after creating clean preferences, we'd like you to check whether it is an issue with the game itself, or with the Steam installation. Please follow the below steps to refresh the Steam and game installations: 1. Refresh your Steam download cache, see: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3134-TIAL-4638 2. Restart your computer. 3. Launch Steam. 4. Verify game files in Steam, see: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335 5. Launch game
This also seems strange to me. I mentioned in my initial mail that I tried to run the game on different systems - so what's the point? Spoiler: Nothing.
So what do you do when the tech support (apparently) didn't read your initial mail? Annoy them, but be kind. After that, there was no response for a while. When I checked again about a week later, I
finally got the message that my findings had been passed on to the development team. That was on January 4, 2023, and I'm curious if there is still something coming.
Thanks for reading.

2023.03.25 21:30 MinieC Jordan Harris Stats Analysis
| Bio Jordan Harris was born on July 7, 2000 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He started his hockey career as a goalie, like his father and brother (his father was drafted by the New York Islanders). Fortunately for us, he liked skating too much to stay in front of a net, so became a defensemen instead. Harris played four years for Northeastern University, graduating in Business administration. He was named captain in this final season (2021-22). A left-shot defensemen, Harris was drafted in the third round, 71st overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 2018. Quite an interesting situation for a long-time Bruins fan. He played his first game against the Tampa Bay Lightning April 2, 2022 and scored his first NHL goal on April 29 against the Florida Panthers. As per CapFriendly, Harris signed a 2 year, $2,800,000 contract extension with the Montreal Canadiens on Feb. 10, 2023 starting in 2023-24. The contract has a cap hit of $1,400,000. He will be a RFA at the end of the 2024-25 season when he is 24 years old. Basic Stats https://preview.redd.it/10luuu3mlxpa1.png?width=669&format=png&auto=webp&s=b9725f0e47ef1df18293be1f887c031e0773c465 Harris had 15 point so far this year, all but one at even strength (EV). His sole power play point, in the dying seconds of a PP, makes him the most efficient D to use with a man advantage ;) Amongst rookie defenseman, he ranks 4th in terms of total minutes played and 8th for points. https://preview.redd.it/2msjtnmqlxpa1.png?width=583&format=png&auto=webp&s=c665d32aea398fabc5e5e8445db8c56b695315e9 Of all the Ds that played over 300 minutes, Harris ranks #119 for goals/60 and #129 for primary assist per 60 at even strength. That production rate would be worthy of a 4D on an average team. Not bad for a rookie! Advanced Stats - On Ice More info on advanced stats terms and concepts: Beyond the Box Score - An Intro to Hockey Analytics https://preview.redd.it/l8oxh73ulxpa1.png?width=857&format=png&auto=webp&s=b7e88674d4abc9078b6fa888492bce74a5184f03 Advanced stats might not look that great at first glance, but when you compare to the rest of the Ds on the team, it's quite remarkable. He ranks third amongst Habs defensemen for shot attempts % (CF%) and expected goal for per 60 minutes (2.53) -- so if the entire game is played at 5v5 and Harris is always on the ice, the team would finish the game with 2.53 goals (of course that can't be, but you get the idea). He's leading the Ds for expected goals share (xGF%) and expected goals against per 60 (one of the most important stats for a D). Note: In order to assess on-ice result properly, it's essential to compare the results to teammates. A player with an xGF% of 49 could be be considered awful on a contender but quite remarkable for a lottery team (but then again, it depends!). Context is everything when looking at stats. Advanced Stats - Goals Above Replacement (GAR), Isolated Impacts and RAMP (When stats take into consideration point production, on-ice stats, teammates, opposition and deployment.) https://preview.redd.it/zkya0x30rxpa1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=fa62aa8805e16d4c4d58da1f503c85e4197681b5 Z-Score of 0 = league average Harris' Evolving-Hockey's player card and RAPM calculations shows excellent results. He's a bit below league average offensively, but everything else looks great, especially EV defence and penalty kill. In addition, he's good at drawing penalties and performs well without being in the box too often). Context Harris deployment, along with his usual partner Kovacevic, is ' neither'. Meaning that he's not used much for defensive or offensive zone face-off (Gulhe, Matheson, Savard and Edmundson are on the ice for most for defensive zone face-offs while Wideman and Barron get the most offensive zone face-offs.) https://preview.redd.it/yjkzsjq7vxpa1.png?width=905&format=png&auto=webp&s=d1e66c0b0dbd61d7dd6efca4d3e7b13b42ae2158 As indicated in this graph, Harris usually plays against bottom six players and doing an excellent job ( the higher a player is on this graph, the tougher the competition is). Harder minutes were given to Savard, Gulhe and Edmundson. While he's not as sheltered as Wideman and Xhekaj, he does have easier match-ups than the average D. Summary Jordan Harris is having an amazing rookie season. His offensive production is more than adequate for a player on his ELC (his two-year, 1.4M AAV extension might be a steal). While Harris is doing a remarkable job against bottom six players, it would be interesting to see how he would fare if given tougher match-up. Final note... on top of being an amazing hockey player, Harris is also a very decent human being. submitted by MinieC to Habs [link] [comments] |
