200 Best Reflective Essay Topics and Ideas 2023
What Is a Reflective Essay Exactly?
So, you're looking at a reflective essay assignment. If you don't have a clue how to approach it, fret not! We'll break down what it is and how to write a reflective essay before listing potential topics for a reflection paper.
A reflective essay requires college students to reflect on (i.e., analyze) their personal experiences and inner emotions. But instead of just describing a past event that you lived through, focus on how you (your behavior, values, opinions) changed as a result.
When it comes to the structure, a reflective essay consists of three classic components:
  • Introduction. This is where you vividly describe your personal experience and articulate your thesis statement. The latter should reflect the meaning of that experience.
  • Main body. Describe the main insights you've drawn from that experience and how they've impacted you. Illustrate each of them with an example.
  • Conclusion. Reaffirm your thesis statement by summing up what you've learned or how you've changed as a result of that experience.
What is the best topic for reflection paper writing? Well, that depends on you. A good rule of thumb is to choose the topic and events you're comfortable writing about.
How to Choose a Topic for a Reflective Essay
If you're still wondering, ‘What are good topics for a reflection paper?’, we have you covered. Follow these five steps to zero in on the best topic for your reflective essay:
  • Reflect on your interests. Make sure the topic aligns with them. Otherwise, it's unlikely your paper will hold the reader's attention until the final line.
  • Consider what you know about certain topics. If you write a reflective essay on psychology or public health, you need to have a firm foundation to build on.
  • Think about your personal experiences. Choose the topics for reflection where you can draw on experiences others can relate to.
  • Examine your stance on the topic. If you don't have a strong opinion about something, how could you reflect on it in the first place?
  • Brainstorm ideas for a reflective essay. You won't settle on the topic in a snap of the fingers. So, write down all topic ideas that seem like a good fit to you. Then, zero in on the one you feel the most passionate about.

2023.03.26 00:02 Narosian 5 Elites in one room

Was running through Dead Man's Dread on world tier 2 on my necro earlier and the game threw me this impossible to clear grouping. Couldn't aggro one without aggroing all of them. They weren't there the first dozen or so times I did it, but after this, even after resetting a few times the game was like "Nope, get lost, you're done here" and kept putting 5 guys in this room. Eventually gave up and went somewhere else.

2023.03.26 00:01 Hello_There4206969 Random Idea I just had: How would Ash's Journey play out if we switched all his catches with similar, yet different Pokémon?

Like instead of Caterpie and Pidgeotto, Ash catches a different Bug-Type and Regional Bird such as Snom and Corvisquire. Essentially a semi-randomizer Journey where we ignore the oddity of Ash encountering a Pokémon in a region it shouldn't be found in.
They don't have to share a type with Ash's canon Pokmon, just share something in common with them like body shape, coloration, species name, egg group, etcetera. Anything really.
Since Bulbasaur's a frog, how about instead of Ash finding a Bulbasaur taking care of other abandoned Pokémon he finds a Bellibolt doing Bulbasaur's job.
The leader of the hoodlum turtle Pokmon Ash has join him on his adventures could be... Terapagos. (Implying there's a Terapagos Squad in Kanto.)
Sitting on a rock unaware it's Trainer left it there to never have to hear from it again, Ash encounters the Pokémon whose a member of the same Egg Groups as Charmander: Drampa.
We replace Snorlax with another big and heavy powerhouse who takes it's time getting started: Regigigas.
Muk for another hugger Pokémon that people don't want to be hugged by: Bewear.
What do you think?

2023.03.26 00:01 Dhalthamus New degu owner, need help with habitat

Hi. We're new to the world of degus (and rodents in general) and need a little help getting our two little guys into the right habitat. We got Tater and Tot back in November, and my wife bought this "chew proof" habitat for them at the time: https://www.petsmart.com/small-pet/cages-habitats-and-hutches/full-cheeksandtrade-chew-proof-small-pet-habitat---includes-cage-trays-ramps-shelves-and-wheels-69443.html?cgid=600201&fmethod=Browse
Problem is it's not chew proof. They have been chewing at the vertical wires and have managed to break enough of them that they can get out of the cage now. We've learned that the aggressive chewing is because we didn't have enough stimulation for them, so we're stocking up on that stuff, but I need to buy them a new habitat. Looking for recommendations from y'all with experience because the interwebs are full of contradictory crap and I don't know who to trust. Would like to stay in the $200-$300 range, but can go a bit higher for the right solution. Thanks

2023.03.26 00:00 No_Investigator4743 What this year’s college reactions have said about essays, from a random senior’s perspective 😝

Hey everyone! I decided to write this post based on seeing all the messages in A2C, which have become…. Oh boy. Yikes. Yeahhh, seems this year has been crazy.
Amongst all the saddening rejection posts and hopeful acceptances, I’ve noticed one type that’s appeared often; the “Idfk how I got rejected” post, AKA the “I did everything, what happened?” In these posts, I’ve seen so many students get rejected from schools they thought they’d get into despite having a bajillion awards and stats that have given me MASSIVE impostor syndrome. That makes their rejection all the more sus, right?
Yet amongst all these posts is one factor in common: no mention of the essay. Now you may be going “well duh you silly random redditor of course they wouldn’t share those whole things.” Which I agree, it’d be crazy to share all those essays. But with that comes a suggestion to my major question: maybe among all the stats and crazy accolades, the 40 research papers and 300 APs, the essays have really been scrutinized this year to help these colleges take some weight off themselves.
Now to explain myself, It’s story time! As a junior, I attended an incredible summer program and have now had the opportunity to help a number of current applicants by reviewing their essays. And from that experience, while I’m no AO, I found it surprisingly easy to realize when the essays I was reading were actually amazing.
Now, for context, many of the essays I looked at were good. There were a few where I quickly recognized a red flag and went “oh boy,” then politely asked the writer to fix the error. But a majority were well written essays that did a good job accomplishing their goal: highlighting the applicant’s accolades while showing why they were a good fit.
And then there were THOSE essays, the ones that had a certain something to them that made them feel honest. Whether that was humor that felt genuine, or a story well told that gave an honest window into the applicant, there were a few people’s essays that quite quickly stood out.
Now, I bring this up as to suggest an answer to the questions of my fellow applicants questions on “why didn’t I get in? What else could I have done?” For an actual AO, finding the essays that really stood out may have been easier, both to find and to justify as a reason to select 1 person out of a group of 20 highly similar applicants with 1500+ scores and tons of awards.
So my conclusion? To those seeing these posts as future applicants and panicking, deep breath. What you’re doing now is enough, but if you want to find something to “fix” (EMPHASIS ON THE QUOTATION MARKS BECAUSE YOU’RE AMAZING ALREADY), consider your essays when you write. Share them with those you trust know you best, to ensure the genuine, honest self comes through. Trust me, you will not regret it. If you love XYZ school that you’re applying too, put in the effort, DONT PROCRASTINATE, and above all, show how genuine your interest is.

2023.03.26 00:00 Solid-Slip770 I will be homeless soon with no car… how do I survive?

Context: due to mental issues and actions I had to leave my hometown to live with my father. Junior year was harshly affected due to this and my father started to see me as a nuisance. Senior year was an straight A year but it didn’t change anything. Immediately after graduation I was expected to pay for college myself, pay bills, pay for my own food, Ubers, etc. I’ve yet to get a license or car. But at least I had a place to stay. As of may 31st I will not. This is due to me not wanting to work 3 jobs like my dad wants. Instead I’m getting a promotion to manager ($18) at the end of this month, but he doesn’t believe me. I live in the austin surrounding area. I have no friends (that I know of) open to me staying with them. If I can’t find a solution, I will “leave” rather than struggle outside. Please help me, I’m willing to work, i mean I already am but Im struggling to get to work some days much less get a license and car.

Thoughts on Clow Reed, given what we heard today?

Comments of the Day:
LeonKevlar pointed out just how bad the Nelvana dub is:
What's interesting about this episode though is the change the Nelvana Version did to that final scene. If you've been reading up on my posts then you know that Nelvana did everything they could to remove every hint of romance in the show. So what happened with the Nelvana version? Instead of a phone call between Shaoran and Sakura, it was changed into a phone call between Shaoran and his mother. Horrendous I know. What was originally a very sweet and cute scene turned into something ominous. Ugh. >_<
ToastyMozart found something genuinely helpful that Eriol did:
MVP of the episode goes to Eriol, for doing what every viewer wants to do when the romantic leads have been beating around the bush for too long: Lock them both in a room until progress gets made.

On an important note, no unmarked spoilers! No jokes about events yet to come, and no references to future episodes!

2023.03.25 23:59 curiousdottt How to spark real change in the US

I, like many others, have been growing increasingly restless about the progression of fascism in the US.
Our government is not benefiting the people.
98% of Americans would agree, but no one can agree on which politician is to blame.
So we watch videos of other countries protesting, and we read tweets that condemn the actions of the horrors we see around us, and it creates a false sense of accomplishment.
But we aren’t making any lasting changes with this.
We need to band together and make real plans to work towards a government that benefits the people.
My idea: we can make subreddits or [other social media things] for individual cities and specific areas of the country. In these online spaces; we can schedule public meetings, generate fundraising campaigns, plan workers strikes, etc.
I can’t be the only person that is trying this idea, and this post will likely get lost in oblivion, but I really believe we can use social media to get the ball-rolling on powerful workers movements.
Every successful counterculture movement in US history was started by a group of people with some ideas. So lets try, who has some ideas?

You’ve stumbled across this page for a reason.
It’s not because you’ve heard of this crazy new business model called ‘SMMA’ and it’s not because you’re struggling to sign your first client.
It’s because you’re exasperated. You’re frustrated. And you know you can do better. You’re stuck in a pair of “golden handcuffs”: running a mildly-successful agency but beholden to your clients, your staff, and your phone.
You’ve broken the one inviolable rule of running an agency and not kept a full pipeline.
You know that you can reach the upper echelon of agency owners making six-and-seven figures, whilst working less than six-and-seven hours a week. You just don’t know how… My name’s Iman Gadzhi and since 2017, I’ve run IAG Media. In this time, I’ve worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, enjoyed six-figure months and made my clients millions.
I’ve also lost multiple clients in a row, been over-worked and chained to the agency that I started to give me freedom.
All the while, I’ve refined, tweaked and optimized my agency whilst also creating GrowYourAgency.com – the world’s largest education company for agency owners.
But in early 2020, I realised there was a problem. For every beginner agency owner desperate to sign their first client, there were three experienced agency owners desperate for guidance, systems and processes, and a solution to their broken agency model.
It’s why I created Copy Paste Agency…
…not so I can show you how to sign a client or perform basic outreach.
So you could take, copy and paste the exact methods I use in my own agency into your agency. Copy Paste Agency students learn:
How I continue to run a multiple-six-figure agency from home with a skeleton staff and minimal expenses.
How to command higher retainers… and retain those clients for longer.
How to automate, delegate, and optimize every area of your agency from lead generation and sales to service delivery and client communication.
Plus get access to the latest tools and software used by my own agency, IAG Media such as reporting templates.

2023.03.25 23:58 1xpx1 Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy: An Update

I have posted here many times throughout the last year and a half, as I have worked through my vaginal health crisis. I'll spare the recap, and just say I am still struggling without a clear answer or solution. I'll flag this as a rant, though I am really just venting.
In November, I followed up with gynecology, after using topical steroids to treat genital psoriasis that had been confirmed by biopsy. The skin cleared, but all of my other symptoms persisted (odor, excessive discharge of varying color and consistency, pain/tearing sensation with insertion and penetration, general discomfort, hypersensitivity of the clitoris and opening). I was referred to pelvic floor PT to treat it as more of a musculoskeletal issue instead of an infection.
I'd been through pelvic floor PT before, so I was very open to it again! I went to a few sessions in DecembeJanuary with a PT in network through the hospital, but it just wasn't clicking. The hospital only recently started offering pelvic floor PT, and no one on staff really had a lot of experience. I stopped going for that reason and because my skin got bad again due to rebounding after steroid use.
I saw a dermatologist who was pretty insistent the psoriasis I'd been diagnosed with would not be causing any of the more internal issues I was having. She was very unhelpful. I went over treatment options with gynecology, as I wanted their input. I followed up with the derm via message to ask about procedure codes but also about side effects. She didn't answer me on side effects, so I just decided I was not comfortable seeing her again.
I was referred to behavioral health after following up with gynecology. I had quit PT, had multiple walk-in visits to test for yeast/BV, and wanted to talk about the derm visit. Behavioral health was out until 2024, so I never scheduled. I am still really bummed about that, because I would really like help managing stress and anxiety.
I got a referral back to the PT I saw years ago, knowing I'd likely be paying out of pocket. It is $200 each session with insurance covering less than $50 (so generous). We have been able to get my muscle relaxation much better, but my nerves are very active. During the last session she gave me a topical with lidocaine in it, just to try. She also suggested possibly doing dry needling the next session in hopes of calming the nerves down.
Not a lot of good updates, honestly. I am still feeling very hopeless. I haven't worked up to contacting my insurance to see what options I have for mental health services outside of the hospital that would be covered.
If anyone has any questions about pelvic floor PT, I am happy to answer.

2023.03.25 23:57 knahtthank could chatGPT tell the difference

I recently was curious to test if chatGPT thinks it could distinguish things based on physical properties assuming it was suddenly given sight. I tried asking it in many different ways but it seems convinced that, if given a pear and an apple and only were allowed to look at them (no tools) it would be able to tell which is which. even after I explain, and it admits that it has never seen an apple or a pear and only has descriptions of those, it still claims it could differentiate the two.
"
You are correct that as an AI language model, I do not have firsthand sensory experiences of touch or color. However, my training data includes vast amounts of information about different objects, including fruits like apples and pears. This data includes textual descriptions, images, and even numerical data that describes physical properties such as color, texture, and size.
Based on this training data, I have learned to associate certain visual features with certain objects, even if I have not personally experienced them. For example, my training data includes information that describes apples as generally having a smooth surface and being red or green in color, while pears are generally yellow or green in color and have a bumpy surface. These associations between visual features and objects have been learned through the analysis of patterns in the data.
"
I tell it to try and convince me of this ability it claims to have
"
As an AI language model, I cannot "see" objects in the way that humans do, as I am not equipped with sensory organs like eyes. However, I have been trained on vast amounts of data that include descriptions and images of different objects, including fruits like apples and pears.
This training has enabled me to recognize patterns in the data and make associations between certain visual features and object labels. For example, my training data may include descriptions of apples as being generally round and having a smooth surface, while pears are generally more pear-shaped and have a bumpy surface.
While my recognition and differentiation of objects may not be as precise or accurate as a human's, it is based on the patterns and associations learned from the training data. This has been demonstrated through various applications of AI, including object recognition in images and videos, natural language processing, and more.
Ultimately, the ability of an AI model to visually recognize and differentiate between objects depends on the quality and quantity of training data, as well as the algorithms used for analysis and pattern recognition. While AI models are not perfect, they have demonstrated remarkable progress in recent years in tasks such as object recognition, language translation, and other areas.
"
I think it gets a little off topic and speaks about ai generally at the end there instead of itself, but it still seems convinced it could do this.

the full conversation is a lot longer, so if people want more i am happy to provide it... or you could just ask it yourself. this was on the free version, so not GPT4.
chatGPT mentions that It has access to images in its training data in one of its responses... can anyone confirm or deny this, I'm aware that 4 can produce images. As a test, I asked it to draw a turtle in python... it doesn't look anything like a turtle other than being made from green shapes, i asked it to make it more detailed and it added stars.
sorry for such a long post, but this stuff is super interesting.

as a side not, it is making me add something called a "flair" apologies if I assign this incorrectly... I don't use reddit a lot.

2023.03.25 23:57 Traditional_Ad3929 Error Handling when running async queries through Python script

Following situation: I am using a Python script to call an API. I need to call this API for a lot of IDs: one API call returns the respsonse for a particular user (no bulk option). Lets say I have a list of 1000 user IDs. At the moment I am for looping over this list and append the respsonse to a list. Every 50 iterations I write the result (this list) to Snowflake using async queries so that the script can just move on to the next API call. So far everything works and the performance is ok. But I am afraid of SQL errors since I would not notify them! I was thinking of storing the QueryIDs so that I can check their status at the end of the script but I guess this is not the best solution. Any ideas how to do this? Heard of callback functions but I have never used them so far.

2023.03.25 23:56 DistrictCrafty4990 Court etiquette and parks

Wanted to get opinions on something. I was playing at a different court today than usual and I was told by this group I had to give up my court because they do this king of the hill thing where the winner stays on the court.
But the rules outside the court clearly say that it’s first come, first serve and that it’s open to anyone, and if there’s a line you have to give up the court after 60 minutes (which hadn’t elapsed yet). I’ve been to events where they have similar rules but for those events they’ve reserved these courts in advance. This is a public court with no reservation system. They even told me it wasn’t an open court / play but the rules state otherwise and explicitly mention no tournaments unless sponsored by the city. The other annoying thing is that the courts on the other side opened pretty soon after so I ended up taking that one after I gave mine up but they seemed to have wanted all the back courts.
Any opinions on “house rules” vs stated rules? What kind of etiquette do you generally follow in cities which might have more competition for courts but no reservations?

2023.03.25 23:54 Passinglinesandtimes What happens on girls' trips after 30+?

I'm currently in Paris on my 3rd ever all women group trip & I am quite frustrated.
My first two trips have involved women getting in intense arguments (women who were close friends prior to the trip), someone crying in a restaurant bathroom due to feeling slighted, tensions arising to where it makes all following activities with them awkward, photoshoots that seem to almost never end as though suddenly we're all IG influencers, & all around leaving the destination feeling like I probably would've been better off going there solo.
So far the crying in the restaurant bathroom & the never ending photoshoots where I've been left waiting while they run off to take mirror selfies has already happened so it's gotten me concerned about where these next few days will go. Part of me wants to just get a room elsewhere & leave before it all goes south.
The most fun I've had are during times I left the group to explore on my own & thankfully that has given me the freedom to fall in love with Paris. I cannot wait to return. Alone. Still, I can't help but wonder if this is how these trips are supposed to go?
I've gone on vacations for years as the only woman in a group of guy friends & always had an absolute blast. Going on trips with my boyfriend has always been amazing & I'm happy to have found someone I'm so compatible with. I absolutely love traveling solo as well.
My boyfriend says it's simply the women I've been going with but I never started going on girls trips until after I hit 30 so I have no clue if it's really just picking bad partners every time or if this is what happens because I really just want to eat my croissants in peace without having to pose first.

2023.03.25 23:54 Flagelllant An essay on Total War sieges : CA has been getting it wrong, and the community too.

The moment i saw the new maps for TWW3 in the labeled "Siege Rework", i thought there was immediately a problem, a problem that CA had advertised as a solution, BIGGER MAPS.
The problem with bigger maps isn't the size itself, but the concepts that are tied to it. People were tired of WH2/1 maps where cities were just a single wall or a couple of walls with a bunch of very simplified chokepoints. This design was definitively bad for a million of reasons, but the main one hasn't been fixed, and it's the walls being useless.
I'm not going to stop myself on this point because everyone knows walls are useless and have suggested ideas to make wall gameplay much more responsive and make much more sense, but i would like to suggest a different cause. Altough i'd love to see them dissapear, i don't think ass ladders are the problem with walls, i think the problem is the design of the maps. Walls could work exactly as they are right now, but the problem is they are always put on situations that make the defender unadvantaged. Take a look at a game that for many people did sieges right, Thrones of Brittania. In that game you can see multilayered wall cities that use the overlaying of them in interesting ways, and look for ways to give the defender options in how to defend the enemies approaching the city.
They made things like putting walls on top of hills so they are unreachable but can be used by archers, or putting 2 walls opposed to each other to form a tunnel enemies have to go through and can be rained missiles from above. Just putting 2 walls near each other gives a lot of options.
Current siege design is almost totally focused on fighting on the inside of the city, with dozens of chokepoints and ways to enter each fortified location. This makes playing sieges extremely microintensive, and makes it so there's always unused space by the defenders that has to be given for free to the enemy, because in this game you are almost never awarded for spreading thin, and if i put 2 units to defend each defensible position like CA seems to have intentend i will get obliterated, because my units keep facing a 2 vs 10 while the enemy is entering like a wrecking ball.
The size of the siege maps and the design they have clash with each other, either i camp on my last defensible position to take the enemy head on (The optimal, but braindead and unfun route) or i spread my army thin through the gigantic map, wich isn't optimal at all and requires an insane amount of micro to constantly realocate and use my army through all of this gigantic map, without it even being the most optimal option. I've played 40 units siege in Cathay maps and i steel feel like i don't have even remotely the amount of units to defend this monstruosity.
This is the reason why CA has put rechargable materials and let's you build during the battle, so you have a reason for holding the outer layers and retrating later to the inner ones, the problem is when all of these layers are designed to inconvenience the defender more than helping it, it's no wonder that's not the approach most players will use.
I believe the pinnacle of Total War Sieges isn't found on a game but on a mod, Strongholds for the Samurai for Shogun 2. Yes, this mod had many times pathfinding issues, but i would argue not that different to the current Warhammer maps, even better. Now let's take a look at some designs they've made, masterfully recreated by me on paint.
Example #1: https://imgur.com/ZMrJZpk
The red lines are to indicate the gates. In this map, you can see how the settlement is divided on 2 sections. On one side, a direct, long path to the final city square. On the other, a shorter path, but protected by different layers of walls. The attacking player has two choices. He can commit to the left side, where the enemy can defend itself much worse initially, but the long path to the gate will leave the entire army exposed to being in a thin line while being shot from the side by the archers on the blue line i've marked. Alternatively, they can choose to go for the right side, in wich the enemy will be less able to shoot effectively but the advance will be much, much slower for the attackers.
Take a look at how this design make us think much more strategically than tactically. I have to think about wich side of the fortress to attack carefully, or how to approach a double assault. Maybe my heavier troops can withstand an assault on the front, while quicker ones try to take the long path. Or maybe i use those heavier troops to try and take the archers on the first sections of the wall, reducing the firepower being shot to the other side. As a defender i think carefully about how many units to put on each side, as to not make any option too appealing, since guarding to heavily the longer "weaker" side could make the enemy go only for the direct approach that would leave the rest of your army too isolated. It's a great design that on it's basis provides variety and complexity, and doesn't put the focus on maneuvering or making as many units as possible take as many streets as possible.
Example #2 https://imgur.com/32SKQFp
For this second example i've marked the towers on green. Take a look at how, once again, the map can be divided in two main sections, the open one and the compact one. It seems tempting to leave the outer defences for the enemy since they are too open to be defended that effectively, but that's where the towers come in. If you gift all the outer settlement to the enemy, your own towers will be captured and shoot you from the outside, and you will end up trapped in your own coffin. This design, in a simple way, allows for the player to have an interesting dynamic, where again, the focus is put on where to put your units, wich to put where, and having a clear strategy and macro plan on how to approach the siege based on a number of factors, the focus is not on maneuvering, not on taking enemies from the back from behind a street, not on micro, it's all about about the strategic approach.

My resume of this long rant is,
-smaller maps where you are forced to use the multiple chokepoints so you can't fit all your army in just one, but big enough to incentivize different approaches while being proportional to the army sizes in the game.
- creative siege layouts where walls are used to the defender's advantage. Design with moats and terrain in front of walls to make them less easy to attack, no giant kilometrical walls where it's impossible to defend every inch. multi tier settlements are an essential part of making sieges better.
- simpler layouts, not WH2 style, but making a focus on fewer choices but that are more impactfull on the macro scale, as shown in the SOTS examples.
