2023.03.26 00:29 sailor_stuck_at_sea Help me decide on a bikepacking hard tail frame
I had to return my old frame due to a warranty issue so now I'm stuck looking for a new one.
I have a full Shimano Deore XT drivetrain, a set of boost thru-axle wheels and a 110mm Rockshox Reba suspension fork left over from the old bike that I'm hoping to repurpose.
• Designed for a 100-120mm suspension fork • Boost spacing • BSA threaded bottom bracket • No horizontal sliding dropouts. They failed on my previous bike and I don't want to deal with that again. Porteur style is ok. • Clearance for 29x2.6in tires
My budget is €1000
A few of the frames I've considered are the Nordest Sardinha 2, the Esker Hayduke and the Cotic Solaris.
Any other I should look at?

2023.03.26 00:26 corsair_noir First Ride In Over 20 Years: A Saddle Sore Tale
I haven't ridden a bike in over 20 years but some friends of mine wanted me to join them on a ride (knowing I've been trying to get more active). One of them let me borrow their bike (I'm still searching for one of my own). The frame seemed like a good fit so we hit the road. I had a crazy good time! I forgot how amazing and freeing riding a bike could be. I can't believe I've been depriving myself off this for so long. It was great... Until I got home. Oy... First time ever getting saddle sore. Pain!
After a few days of treating it with aloe, everything got better. However, I was hesitant to ride again. I hopped online looking up padded shorts, magic remedies, and whatever else I could find to prepare for the next ride. After a bunch of research, I ended up forgoing the padded shorts and other items (for now at least). I did decide to buy some megababe thigh rescue and I'll give that a really big thumbs up.
Here are a couple things that helped the most:
1) riding position. I realized the seat was up too high for me, which I believe caused the most problems on the first ride 2) giving my backside a break by occasionally standing up on the bike especially when coasting. The breaks really helped a LOT! I actually did more miles than the first ride and came home free of any sores
If you're having problems with saddle sores definitely consider readjusting your seat position before going out and buying a new saddle or other gear. Take breaks buy standing occasionally. Lastly, I think the megababe helped as well plus chaffing isn't remotely fun

Cut contact with my parents over ten years ago due to heavy physical, mental and verbal abuse my entire life until I could legally leave.
I recently got back into contact with my step mother before my father as he does not check his Facebook, answer text messages or phone calls, purely because of the recent train derailment in Ohio has had me worried what I might feel if they were to get sick and die without ever facing them as an adult.
Looks like nothing has changed and I shouldn't have bothered 🤣👌
Been an absolute wreck today and trying so hard not to feel stupid for even bothering to reach out. I'm gonna go garden and cry into my pups curly fur and wish my mother wasn't even worse...

So recently started riding my bike everywhere and am split on where to ride sometimes. S Downings North of Wash park is very narrow car lanes with cars parked on both sides with no bike lane and plenty of sand. So naturally I rode politely and not fast on the sidewalk giving as much room as possible cause it wasn’t ideal and got bitched at by a pedestrian. Is there a better way or am I expected to be in traffic all the way?

2023.03.26 00:22 usualsushpect Brompton C Line Explore or any other bike ?
Hello everyone, recently moved to London and considering buying a folding bike using the bike to work scheme. I live on the top floor with no access to bike storage on the lower levels which explains why I’m considering a folding bike. The commute to work is fairly short and a straight road, approximately 3 miles. I do plan on doing some occasional leisure runs as well. Which bike would y’all suggest is most suitable based on the above?
I’ve looked at the Bromptons, Dahon and Raleigh but not sure which to go for.

2023.03.26 00:19 StepwiseUndrape574 GTA 6 Vehicles: What Could We Drive?
The vehicles in the GTA franchise have always been a highlight for players, and it's safe to assume that GTA 6 will feature a wide variety of vehicles for players to drive.
While there has been no official confirmation about what vehicles will be available in GTA 6, there have been some rumors and speculations about what we could potentially see.
One popular theory is that the game could feature more electric and hybrid vehicles, reflecting the current trend towards environmentally friendly transportation. This could include electric cars, bikes, and even scooters.
Another theory is that the game could feature more customizable vehicles, allowing players to truly make their vehicles their own. This could include the ability to add custom paint jobs, body modifications, and even performance upgrades.
There have also been rumors that the game could feature vehicles from previous GTA games, such as the Dodo plane from GTA 3 or the Deluxo from GTA Vice City. While this is a possibility, it's important to keep in mind that these are just rumors and should be taken with a grain of salt.
Ultimately, the vehicles in GTA 6 are anyone's guess at this point. However, it's safe to assume that Rockstar Games will continue to create unique and exciting vehicles for players to drive.

2023.03.26 00:19 linkbonette 27F looking to travel for Birthday, looking for safety and destination advice
I have a birthday coming up and really want to travel somewhere for my birthday. I was thinking of visiting NYC and want to check out it's green spaces, parks, the High Line, bike along the Brooklyn Bridge, etc. I was looking at prices for hotels and the prices are starting at around $220 a night. I was planning of staying for four nights and that's over a $1000. I really value privacy given my medical conditions and my own room, so I don't want to stay in a hostel. Airbnbs are quite pricey too and about the same cost as staying in a hotel.
Another alternative was to go to Rio de Janeiro. The prices for hotels are very low and quite affordable. Less than $75 for a night at a four star hotel. However, I've been reading a ton of horror stories about people and their time in Brazil to the point where they don't take out their phone. I currently live in a big city and take precaution when I go to downtown like not wear jewelry, my headphones, not carry a purse, and keep my personal items in my front pockets. In Rio, I really want to bike along the beaches, get some sun, watch a sunset, and meet friendly locals. I wouldn't be out past 6pm and would only roam around the area near the hotel I stay in. A flight out to Rio is less than $700, which is way less than a four night stay in NYC.
So I guess my dilemma is this: NYC hotels are too expensive and can't see paying $220 a night; Rio is the more affordable option but I worry about my safety. In NYC, I wouldn't be out at night and the latest I come in is like 6pm. Given the city I live in, I would exercise the same precaution in NYC and plan on not visiting certain areas.
Any suggestions of what I should do? Any other alternatives of where I could travel to? I'm looking for a place where I can get some "sun", it's walkable, the people are nice, and there are ton of museums, outdoor spaces and fun activities to do, and hotels are less than $100 a night!
Hope someone can give me a suggestion of what to do!

2023.03.26 00:16 CollegeParticular882 Am i a bad friend?
I (16 M) don't have many friends but the few i do have i consider my best/true friends and i care and respect for them very much. We used to always Play, Chat, Cook, and tell Jokes together as a group but recently my family moved away and we are meeting less and less. My dad & Mom hate my friends because "There are no true friends and they only hurt/backstab you" My dad had friends and tells me every day how amazing his friends were back in the day every chance he gets ( they r dead now) and mom just hates everyone and everything that doesn't bring here profit. She hates my friend because she believes studying is everything and i should do that 24/7 and get a great paying job (She wanted me to be the best) she saw my passions/hobbies as nonsense and distractions from my studies so little by little she got rid of that from me. I felt empty for so long doing what i was told without question and my own thought bullied at school but then came my friend (a single person) and i was happy after sooo long he brought my passion back he was there when my parents weren't and when i needed help and i used to invite him over to my place so we could play and spend some time together. I felt alive again after what 10 years? Mom didn't like that i was spending time with him instead of studying (also she hates men and thinks if she had a really bad childhood and survived why can't i?) and she convinced my dad that he was distracting me from my studies. In their defense, I did leave whatever i was doing to go shopping with him (takes about 5 mins max it's not much stuff potatoes, meat, etc.) but he came with me when i needed to go fetch some groceries too. We would chat together, laugh, and tell each other our secrets it was fun. We plan things together talk about weird shit together both help each other when needed
Then we moved away This happened the 2nd time in my life and i cried (I was raised by the "men don't cry/men are strong & men don't feel pain" mindset so this was surprising) i cried for so long cuz i knew my parents would never let me visit him again. I didn't have a bike or any means of transport.
Then i got a bike and could visit him if i had permission by mom and dad was not home from 4:00 P.M-7:00 P.M. (My dad is a cheater and has multiple families so he is not really home much. He was absent from most of my childhood) So when he was not here i could go visit but over the years i have grown addicted to the internet and don't visit much and it is a lot harder to get permission too as dad is at home till 6:00 P.M and mom hates him so it takes a lot of requests to get permission and i'm losing myself into this internet addiction and i'm not talking to him for weeks
I feel like a horrible friend that doesn't care for his friends and puts things as meaningless as the internet before everyone. I don't chat with him on discord or call him either just on my PC 24/7. I fell like he deserves a better friend.

2023.03.26 00:15 Pprdge_Frm_Rmbrs We're Being Followed - [On The Road Challenge]
“Dude…this car is following us.” I checked my rearview after making a sharp, last-minute turn to see if it was still behind…and there it was…rounding the corner.
“You’re being paranoid man, it’s probably not even the same car.” Frank turned in the passenger seat to look out the back window. “Can’t see shit in this rain…you really think it’s the same one?”
“Yea…it’s got a headlight out…and…I dunno, it’s got like a weird shape to it. It’s definitely the same one.”
We left the party just after midnight. Frank was supposed to drive us back to his parent’s in his mom’s SUV, but he’d gotten on a hot streak at the beer-pong table and ended up getting hammered. I really shouldn’t have been driving either, but I did my best to sober-up in the hour before we left. We’d told his parents we were going to a late movie and they typically went to bed early…as long as they found us in bed in the morning, our cover would remain intact.
Shortly after our departure, I noticed the car behind us.
At first, I thought it might be a motorcycle…just a single light bobbing behind us in the distance, but they’d have been insane to be out on a bike in this storm. When a flash of lightning lit the sky, I watched in the mirror and saw that it was a least a car of some sort…possibly an SUV or truck.
Only the driver’s side headlight was lit, and it was flickering…jagged shapes stuck out from it at odd angles…I wondered if maybe they were moving, or hauling furniture or scrap, and had just tied random items down wherever they would fit. Whatever the case, the outline was so unique, there was no mistaking it for another vehicle. It’d been behind us for at least three miles, and we had another couple to go on winding, mountain roads.
And it was inching closer.
“Well fuck man…speed up, let’s lose them!”
“I’m going as fast as I can! It was your idea to take the backroads to avoid cops.”
Every time I checked the rearview, it’d gained a few hundred feet…it would be on us soon.
Another flash of lightning…it was near enough now that I could see it was an SUV…and it was mangled. The odd shapes sticking out were twisted metal…how it was still drivable was a mystery to me.
“Fuck! They’re gonna hit us!”
But, just before we were rear-ended…it swerved and pulled up alongside.
Flash…I saw a nightmare. The roof was caved in on the passenger side and there was a body in the seat…just a body…the head was crushed beyond recognition…blood leaked down onto its shirt.
“Frank! Frank! Fuck, it’s us! Look, it’s your mom’s car! What the fuck?!”
“Jesus Christ dude, look out!”
I’d stopped watching the road…I tried to brake…to cut the wheel…it was too late…we skidded through the guard rail and flipped into the ravine.

2023.03.26 00:14 2dgam3r I used ChatGPT to help me calculate how much average power I would need to overcome the KOM for ADZ.
I'm not a statistician or very good at math, so I asked ChatGPT to do some math for me (and honestly learned a little math along the way).
Here is the conversation (sorry to the metric users out there):
Question: If it took me 80 minutes, averging 5.7 miles per hour, to bike 7.595 miles how fast would I have to bike if I wanted to do the same distance in 30 minutes?
ChatGPT: To calculate the speed at which you would need to bike to cover 7.595 miles in 30 minutes, you can use the formula:
speed = distance / time
where distance is the distance you want to travel (in miles) and time is the time you have to complete the journey (in minutes).
So, to find the required speed, first convert the distance to miles per minute:
7.595 miles / 80 minutes = 0.0949375 miles per minute
Now, you can use this value and the given time of 30 minutes to calculate the required speed:
speed = distance / time speed = 7.595 miles / 30 minutes speed = 0.2531667 miles per minute
Therefore, you would need to bike at a speed of 0.2531667 miles per minute, or about 15.19 miles per hour, to cover the same distance of 7.595 miles in 30 minutes.
Question: To bike 5.7 miles per hour I need 212 watts, how many watts would I need to bike 15.19 miles per hour?
ChatGPT: Unfortunately, there is no simple mathematical formula to convert a given power output at one speed to the power output at another speed for cycling. The power output required to bike at a certain speed depends on several factors such as wind resistance, rolling resistance, incline, rider weight, and bike weight, among others.
However, there are some rough estimates that can be made based on assumptions about these factors. For example, it's generally assumed that wind resistance is the main factor affecting power requirements for speeds above 10-12 mph.
Assuming that the other factors remain constant, to estimate the power required to bike at 15.19 miles per hour (or 6.77 meters per second), we can use the following formula:
Power2 = Power1 x (Speed2/Speed1)3
where Power1 is the power output required to bike at 5.7 miles per hour, Speed1 is the speed at which Power1 was measured (5.7 mph), Power2 is the power output required to bike at 15.19 miles per hour, and Speed2 is the desired speed (15.19 mph).
Using the given information, we have:
Power1 = 212 watts Speed1 = 5.7 mph Speed2 = 15.19 mph
Plugging in these values to the formula above, we get:
Power2 = 212 watts x (15.19 mph / 5.7 mph)3 Power2 ≈ 1131 watts
Therefore, based on these assumptions, you would need to produce approximately 1131 watts of power to bike at 15.19 miles per hour, assuming the same wind resistance, rolling resistance, incline, rider weight, and bike weight as when you were biking at 5.7 miles per hour.
TLDR. It took me an average 212 watts to do ADZ in 80 minutes at an average 5.7 mph. I would need an average 1131 watts to bike at 15.19 mph to do a 30 minute ADZ (which according to VeloViewer is the KOM time)
Looks like I have a new unreachable goal!

2023.03.26 00:10 Excellent-Iron387 Looking for a group of friends to explore the city and do touristy stuff with!
Hi V4F! So I've been living in this city for about a year but due to studies and work taking priority, I haven't had much of a chance to go out and make friends.
I'm looking to make a group of friends who'd like to meet up and hang out regularly, and try and explore new activities together.
Some of the things I thought of were:
- Bar crawling in Gastown
- Check out Richmond Night Market
- Biking through Stanley Park
- Hiking trips and other sports
- Road trips
- Trying out new restaurants, etc
- Checking out Vancouver Art Gallery and other museums
Of course, that's not an exhaustive list, and anyone is free to suggest any other activities they'd like to do in the group.
If you're interested in joining the group, feel free to message me or comment below! All ages/genders welcome, of course.

Got a bike that someone was making into a chopper (not a fan), but the price was right and I always look for a new project. I'm having difficulties getting this bike running right.
As of right now it idles with zero issues, even without the choke on. With choke on it increases rpm when idling. But if I touch the throttle even slightly it will kill the bike. If I have the choke on and hit the throttle it will Rev up shortly then die directly after.
I have cleaned the carbs multiple times, using guitar strings, carb cleaner, compressed air, all of it. The jets seem to be perfectly clear, I've checked the main jets multiple times, but cannot remove pilot jets as they are pressed in. I have rebuilt the carbs with new aifuel mixture screws (set to 2.5 turns out) new fuel needle valves, and new seals in the accelerator pump.
The air box was missing when I got the bike, along with the muffler. There are pod filters on the carbs now which seemed to help with the idling when put on. I know these bikes are finicky about having the stock intake/exhaust setup (or so I've read online).
All the headers get hot when running, and the bike seems to run strong when at an idle. I'm looking for any and all ideas that I can try and get this thing running right. Thanks in advance.

2023.03.26 00:05 PortilloLeon19 Our biggest win with vegetables!
Hi fellow parents!
I wanted to share this win with you all in the event it could help you too. My son is 5, and has always always had the biggest aversion to fruits and vegetables and today, he took his first step without feeling too much pressure. This all started a few days ago when we found a Netflix documentary called “Human: The World Within”. My son loves watching documentaries and he has been enjoying this particular series. Well, one of the episodes talks about “fuel” and the importance of a balanced meal and gut health. So my husband and I tagged team to talk about it very intentionally and showing our son the veggie and fruit portions we were taking in because we needed fuel in our bodies to do activities we all enjoy such as biking. All of this paid off today when my son said he will take one little tree (broccoli) on his plate and felt excited to try it out.
Never thought I’d say this, but thank God for Netflix.
