2023.03.26 00:17 StepwiseUndrape574 Rockstar Launches GTA+ Subscription Service With Member Exclusive Benefits But Is It Worth It?

Once upon a time, it was commonplace for online games to have subscription fees. The earliest popular graphical online games, including Ultima Online and EverQuest, all had recurring service fees, as did many games that came after, such as Final Fantasy XI and World of Warcraft.
That model has largely given way to the "freemium" model where the publishers give the game itself away for free, but much of the game's content is locked behind the choice of either extended play times "grinding" for materials, or the option of skipping that grind with a real-money payment.
However, some games have both, and that usually includes the longest-lived and most-successful ones. Sega's ten-year-on Phantasy Star Online 2 is free-to-play, but has extensive cash purchases and also has a "premium" subscription available. In Final Fantasy XIV and the venerable World of Warcraft, the subscription fee is still required despite the presence of a cash shop.
carmeet
Grand Theft Auto Online has a lot of similarities to what we usually think of as qualities of "MMO" games. While it isn't "massively multiplayer" on a local scale—sessions normally include a maximum of 32 players—there are tens of thousands of players online at any given moment. It has named player characters with persistent progress and all of the other things we think of from MMO games: equipment, appearance customization, player housing, difficult multiplayer "raid" events, and so on.
With that context in mind, it probably shouldn't be a surprise that Rockstar is launching a subscription service for GTA Online. It's called GTA+, and it costs $6 a month. Ponying up for the premium subscription earns you a cool $500,000 in the in-game GTA$ currency every month and extra GTA$ on "Shark Cards," as well as exclusive benefits. Here's the list of benefits for the first month: The Principe Deveste Eight — along with a complimentary Hao’s Special Works upgrade for it before it is made available to purchase by the general public — plus the HSW Orange Trip and HSW CMYK Glitch Liveries. The Auto Shop located in La Mesa, introduces an assortment of gameplay updates from Los Santos Tuners. Current Auto Shop owners can relocate to La Mesa at no additional cost. Waived LS Car Meet Membership fees. Current LS Car Meet members with GTA+ will be reimbursed GTA$50,000 during this event period. Yacht owners can upgrade to the Aquarius Super Yacht at no additional cost. The Gussét Frog Tee and Broker Prolaps Basketball Top and Shorts automatically added to your wardrobe. The Conveyor Livery for the Mammoth Avenger, HVY APC, and TM-02 Khanjali. A selection of free paints and emblems for the Auto Shop. 3X GTA$ and RP on Hao’s Special Works Race Series. 2X Car Meet Rep on the Street Race Series. It would be easy to criticize Rockstar for this move because the company has already taken $60 of your money for the game. That's to say nothing of the grind-heavy nature of GTA Online that practically forces players to purchase Shark Cards for in-game currency if they want to make progress at any kind of reasonable rate. There's also the fact that the company is charging money for what is honestly an extremely minor update on the current-generation consoles.
In the interest of fairness, though, we'll note that many players who bought GTA V (including GTA Online) purchased it nearly a decade ago. Just like other major online games, GTA Online has seen years of additional content and improvements through continual updates, and that stuff does cost money to create.
deveste eight The Principe Deveste Eight, one of the rewards for subscribing this month.
If you own GTA V, you don't actually have to pay Rockstar anything to play it for the rest of eternity, so giving players an option to spend a little every month to support continued development is fair. However, the list of benefits, at least for the first month, is pretty weak.
There's another caveat, too: this program is only available to players on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. We've asked Rockstar if GTA+ will be coming to the PC version, and will update this post if we get a response.

2023.03.26 00:07 cien_anos_de_soledad Mr. Epstein goes to Buenos Aires: 👁️💃🧉 Argentine celebs have been accused of being kid fuckers following the arrest of the former winner of Big Brother

So, first off I'd like to say actual thoughts and prayers for Lucas Benvenuto, who has been going live on IG telling his truth and naming names, because the "justice" system here is a fucking joke, much like in the US/UK/etc. and him going public is the only thing that seems to have resulted in consequences for these sickos. I also worry about him getting got because the deep state killed a prosecutor here previously with no consequences either so what would stop them, or some other party doing the same to a figure skater, but I digress.
Some familiar background story listeners of the show will recognize:
Lucas Benvenuto was sexually abused and trafficked by a group of men, starting at 11, lead by a psychologist named Jorge Corsi, the disgustingly called "boy lovers". His mom was an absent addict, and the group members preyed on him online.
A year later, it got worse as he was kidnapped at 12, and held against his will for 9 months in a book store warehouse in Buenos Aires where he was raped, and videos of these heinous acts were sold to other monsters.
About 2 years later, at 14, he claims he was DMed by Marcelo Corazza a TV producer and the 1st winner of Big Brother Argentina in 2001. He says he sent him sexually explicit photos and texts, and asked the same of Lucas, and that he complied. This week, Corazza was finally arrested and charged with "corruption of a minor" and organizing/being a member a criminal network for the trafficking of children. This is after Lucas' previous legal denouncement against Corazza was dismissed by Buenos Aires prosecutors. However, it did not end there.
Following Corazza's arrest, he finally stopped dropping hints, and explicitly stated in an interview that at 14, he also had a relationship with Jey Mammón, an Argentine actosingecomedian who was 30 at the time, and says he fell in love with him, dated him, and considered him his boyfriend, and the relationship lasted until he was an adult, and his own mother knew, even calling Mammón to confirm when he had left/or arrived at his home "for his safety" 🤢. Since this revelation, Mammón has been suspended by Viacom Argentina.
Today, Lucas went live and decided drop another name (indirectly), ALLEGEDLY Alejandro Wiebe, known better as Marley, arguably the second most famous TV presentepersonality/host in the country as another man who allegedly liked to go to these parties featuring very, very, very young twinks, perhaps even younger than the 16 yo age of consent.
So here we are, the media conglomerates are losing their shit because it turns out that, ALLEGEDLY, a bunch of their producers, actors, hosts, etc. are all kid fuckers. Maybe Argentina and the US isn't that different after all

Q&A

Q: When will [insert game name here] be cracked?
A: STOP! CrackWatch members are not psychic. Games get cracked by completely ANONYMOUS SCENE GROUPS who don't disclose their progress or plans to the general public so NO ONE knows WHEN and IF a certain game will be cracked.

Q: What are all these NFO thingies? Where do I download?
A: NFOs are text files included with game releases which contain information about the releases. CrackWatch only informs which games have been cracked. To download look for the releases on CS.RIN.RU's forum or torrent websites. Useful websites can be found in The Beginners Guide or PiratedGames's Mega Thread.

Q: WTF is Denuvo?
A: Denuvo is a Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology used to protect games from being cracked. Games that have Denuvo are harder to crack and usually take much longer. See Pinned Post for a list of Denuvo games.

Q: An update is out, but it includes the base game as well! Can I only download the update without redownloading the entire game?
A: Yes. CS.RIN.RU is your friend.

2023.03.26 00:02 caknuck [Thank You] u/justalilpatience, u/EntireInevitable26 & u/peachessandtea

I'm taking care of some carding janitorial work, so let's cross off a trio of thank yous from the list.
My appreciation goes to...
u/justalilpatience -- Thank you for the Jack Dempsey card! I would consider it more random than weird, but I love old sports photography. I have been known to spend hours digging through public domain photo archives on Flickr, looking for copyright-friendly pictures I can add to the Wikipedia articles of old-timey baseball players (like this one).
u/EntireInevitable26 -- I loved your polar bear letter card. I'm originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, but my grandparents, mother, aunts and uncles lived for several years in Churchill, Manitoba, which is known as the "Polar Bear Capital of the World." They didn't have any horrific polar bear stories, but my uncle sometimes when whale hunting with the members of the local Inuit community, earning him the nickname "Beluga Bill."
u/peachessandtea -- Thank you for the Goblet of Fire postcard! I have a friend in Bengaluru who has taught me a bit of Hindi. My favorite word from her teachings is "aloochod," which I am pretty sure doesn't appear in any textbooks :D

2023.03.26 00:02 Edward_Stivenson 200 Best Reflective Essay Topics and Ideas 2023

200 Best Reflective Essay Topics and Ideas 2023
What Is a Reflective Essay Exactly?
So, you're looking at a reflective essay assignment. If you don't have a clue how to approach it, fret not! We'll break down what it is and how to write a reflective essay before listing potential topics for a reflection paper.
A reflective essay requires college students to reflect on (i.e., analyze) their personal experiences and inner emotions. But instead of just describing a past event that you lived through, focus on how you (your behavior, values, opinions) changed as a result.
When it comes to the structure, a reflective essay consists of three classic components:
  • Introduction. This is where you vividly describe your personal experience and articulate your thesis statement. The latter should reflect the meaning of that experience.
  • Main body. Describe the main insights you've drawn from that experience and how they've impacted you. Illustrate each of them with an example.
  • Conclusion. Reaffirm your thesis statement by summing up what you've learned or how you've changed as a result of that experience.
What is the best topic for reflection paper writing? Well, that depends on you. A good rule of thumb is to choose the topic and events you're comfortable writing about.
How to Choose a Topic for a Reflective Essay
If you're still wondering, ‘What are good topics for a reflection paper?’, we have you covered. Follow these five steps to zero in on the best topic for your reflective essay:
  • Reflect on your interests. Make sure the topic aligns with them. Otherwise, it's unlikely your paper will hold the reader's attention until the final line.
  • Consider what you know about certain topics. If you write a reflective essay on psychology or public health, you need to have a firm foundation to build on.
  • Think about your personal experiences. Choose the topics for reflection where you can draw on experiences others can relate to.
  • Examine your stance on the topic. If you don't have a strong opinion about something, how could you reflect on it in the first place?
  • Brainstorm ideas for a reflective essay. You won't settle on the topic in a snap of the fingers. So, write down all topic ideas that seem like a good fit to you. Then, zero in on the one you feel the most passionate about.

8 Questions to Help You Write Reflective Essays
Once you finish browsing reflection paper topics and settle on one, you may end up staring at a blank screen, uncertain how to approach this essay.
To help you get started – and craft a well-written essay – we've prepared this list of eight questions. Don't hesitate to use them as your how to write a reflection paper guide:

2023.03.25 23:57 HaydnH Tableau upgrades need a change for the game to survive

Recently a few of my WB members quit, no big deal, players are always going to get bored or find something they prefer to do with their time. But it left my WB with 2 very active players and some less active ones that made raids awkward to complete. So the 2 active ones were thinking of switching to a different clan WB that had 2 spots. Unfortunately switching now would mean a temporary ~500 CR drop for both of us, knocking us out of H8 raids (the first 2 at least). That made me realise how much impact tableau CR gains can have. Now let's consider the game in a few years time. I'm going to have a few thousand CR tied to tableau upgrades. Switching WBs I'm not so concerned about, you can time it when CR isn't so necessary etc. However, players quit, you always need new players coming through to keep the game alive. If they're always going to be thousands of CR below just because of tableau they'll never be useful for H25 raids or whatever hell level we're at then. The concern I have is that every upgrade is 300 activity points, 5 CR every upgrade (ignoring the earlier ones giving more), about 20 CR per week. Let's say 1000 CR per year. In 6 months time a new player will permanently be 1000 CR behind, in 18 months 2000 CR behind. They won't be useful for hell whatever raids etc. I hope others see my logic in that? I want to suggest making the tableau upgrades work in a non-linear fashion (like say normal gems), but then I have the concern that facing a 5000 WB activity point upgrade people just won't bother anymore. Bit something will have to change right?
EDIT: I'm a day 1 player and I believe older players should definitely have an advantage over newer players, otherwise why spend the time to grind? Maybe the solution would be to make the long term benefits like tableau effect PVP more and PVE less? In a years time (if I'm still playing) I'm going to need the newer players to fill raids and dungeons as older players quit... but they won't have the CR.

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.” – Paulo Coelho

-----------

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) encourages people to embrace their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting or feeling guilty for them. It is a type of therapy that aims to help people accept what is out of their control and commit to actions that enrichen their lives. ACT incorporates mindfulness skills to help individuals live and behave in ways consistent with personal values while developing psychological flexibility.

Art Based Therapeutic Work

Art based therapeutic work invites the participant to use the process of creating tangible art pieces with clear clinical intent, a less verbal or cognitive method of expression. Sometimes things that are difficult to grasp or explain in words can emerge or be uncovered through non-verbal means. Through this approach one can bridge levels of consciousness in a way that greatly informs the therapeutic process.

Brainspotting (BSP)

Brainspotting (BSP) is a powerful, focused treatment method that begins by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of distress. Emotional and body pain, the effects of trauma, dissociation and a variety of other challenging symptoms are held deeply in the non-verbal, non-cognitive areas of one’s neurophysiology. BSP uses bilateral sound and fixed eye positions to enhance deep, direct and powerful healing. The therapist helps the client locate internal resources to contain emotional reactions. BSP is especially applicable for treating trauma. People typically respond to traumatic experiences through primitive flight, fight or freeze instincts. BSP allows clients to significantly reduce and eliminate the tension and hyper-arousal associated with these survival instincts. Clients can look forward to integrating healing on emotional, somatic, psychological, and spiritual levels.

Breath Work

Breath Work helps a person feels calm and focused by attuning to their body sensations and awareness. It is often combined with other approaches and techniques to buffer the distress and intense emotional experience that may accompany healing.

Buddhist Informed Therapy

This mode of therapy has aspects of conventional psychotherapy, coaching with traditional Buddhist philosophy. Buddhist psychology helps us to refrain from ways of thinking and behaving that create unnecessary suffering.

Child Centered Play Therapy

Child Centered Play Therapy is rooted in the research and studies of Gary Landreth, Ed.D., LPC, RPT-S among other notable Play Therapy theorists. The approach is focused on building a relationship at a child’s comfort level and pace of trust. This approach uses the basis of “A child’s play is their core and basic level of communication and toys are their words to use.”

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of talking treatment, which focuses on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and behavior, and teaches you coping skills for dealing with different problems. It combines cognitive therapy (examining the things you think) and behavior therapy (examining the things you do). CBT is based on the idea that the way we think about situations can affect the way we feel and behave.

Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS)

Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) is an evidence based practice that calms behavior challenges, opens up new pathways of thinking, and builds the skills to meet expectations. Helping your family member improve areas like frustration tolerance, flexibility and problem solving can improve the relationships regardless of age.

Contemplative Dialogue

Contemplative Dialogue involves deeply engaged and reflective discussion. While most therapy could potentially be described in this manner, contemplation pays particular attention to a client’s inner process and intuition. Most therapies are focused on the exchange between the mind and behavior. Contemplation seeks to open a holistic, spiritual and transcendent dimension of experience using dyadic exchange. This deepens and expands beyond traditional narrative therapy.

Dream Analysis

Dream Analysis allows the participant to document and examine messages which may be coming to them during expanded sleep states. Together, we reflect upon these messages to see what helpful information might inform the therapeutic healing process.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is based on the discovery that imbalances in the body’s energy system have profound negative effects on one’s emotional well-being. Correcting these imbalances, which is done by tapping on meridian points on various parts of the body, often leads to rapid relief.

Energy Healing (Reiki and other modalities)

Energy healing is a holistic practice that activates the body’s subtle energy systems to remove blocks. By breaking through these energetic blocks, the body’s inherent ability to heal itself is stimulated.
The term “reiki” comes from the Japanese words “rei,” meaning universal, and “ki,” which means vital life force energy that flows through all living things. Some practitioners describe reiki as acupuncture without the needles. Reiki is a complementary health approach in which practitioners place their hands on or just above different areas of the body. It’s based on an Eastern medicine belief that living beings have energy fields that support their health and vitality.
Energy blocks, on the other hand, impede innate flow of energy, causing not only health problems, but also negative life circumstances like financial troubles or relationship problems. Reiki practitioners focus on sensing energy blocks and moving the energy for the greatest good of the client.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential Therapy involves a wide range of activity based work. Often there is movement involved and can be done indoors and out. Engaging through experience rather than only talking can reduce resistance and provide participants a “ground up” sense of safety and awareness of internal physical responses to stress.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. When you cut your hand, your body works to close the wound. If a foreign object or repeated injury irritates the wound, it festers and causes pain. Once the block is removed, healing resumes.
EMDR therapy demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes. The brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward mental health. If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound festers and can cause intense suffering. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR therapy training sessions, clinicians help clients activate their natural healing processes.

Filial Therapy

This focused and manualized approach uses a Child-Parent Relationship Therapy model. This modality builds on Child Centered Play Therapy and presents it in a parent-friendly model and adapts core Play Therapy elements and delivers them in a way for parents to use. A common experience for participants is to experience not only increased parental confidence, but ultimately a stronger Child-Parent relationship.

Hakomi Method

The Hakomi Method of Experiential Psychotherapy, a body-centered approach that combines somatic awareness with experiential techniques to promote psychological growth and transformation. Hakomi theory holds the body to be a window to the unconscious and works to help those in therapy identify somatic indicators of unconscious beliefs and then bring these indicators into awareness, thus aiding the process of change.

HeartMath™ emWaveII

HeartMath™ emWaveII devices monitor heart wave variability to assist clients in awareness of internal states of emotional dysregulation. Using this device can help in learning awareness of internal feelings of safety and assess interaction in practicing relationship.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy involves using imagery, breathing, guided visualization and focused attention. This induces suggestibility and openness, and facilitates desired change. Hypnotherapy can have a profound and lasting positive impact on behavior and perspectives. Hypnotherapy has been an effective tool for many issues including pain management, anxiety, sleep difficulties, smoking cessation, weight management and addiction. It offers a powerful alternative to medication alone.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an approach that identifies, addresses and validates multiple sub-personalities or families within each person’s mental system. These sub-personalities consist of wounded parts and painful emotions such as anger and shame, and parts that try to control and protect the person from the pain of the wounded parts.

Mindfulness Based Meditation

Mindfulness Based Meditation is the practice of increasing awareness by bringing one’s complete attention without judgment to the present experience on a moment-to-moment basis. Formal and informal meditation are often associated with the practice of mindfulness. This promotes a relaxed, focused and clear state of mind. Mindfulness practice is an effective intervention for trauma, attention difficulties, depression, low self-esteem, anxiety, impulse control, and numerous other issues.

Non-Monogamy/Kink Informed Therapy

This mode of therapy presents a unique look at traditional and non-traditional relationship systems and uses supportive techniques to give space to create a relationship system that fits those involved. This style of therapy focuses on autonomy and choosing a style of relationship system that benefits all partners involved. It may also include increased education and assistance for those transitioning from more traditional relationships to more creative and collaborative relationship styles.

Polyvagal Theory

We come into the world wired to connect. With our first breath, we embark on a lifelong quest to feel safe in our bodies, in our environments and in our relationships with others. The autonomic nervous system is our personal surveillance system, always on guard, asking the question “Is this safe?” Its goal is to protect us by sensing safety and risk, listening moment by moment to what is happening in and around our bodies and in the connections we have with others.
This listening happens far below awareness and far away from our conscious control. Dr. Stephen Porges, who first researched PVT coined the term neuroception to describe the way our autonomic nervous system scans for cues of safety, danger, and life-threat without involving the thinking parts of our brain. Because we humans are meaning-making beings, what begins as the wordlesss experiencing of neuroception drives the creation of a story that shapes our daily living.
– Deb Dana from “The Polyvagal Theory in Therapy”

Problem Solving Therapy

Problem solving therapy is a form of therapy that provides clients with tools to identify and solve problem that arise from life stressors. Problem solving therapy is very practical in its approach and is concerned with the present. This orientation embraces self-efficacy and accepts the idea that problems are a normal part of life.

Psychedelic Integration/Harm Reduction

Psychedelics assist in giving us a glimpse into the unconscious mind. With the assistance of talk therapy these medicines help us work through and examine emotions in a safe and freeing environment. Psychedelic Integration (& Preparation) Therapy involves preparing for an upcoming journey/ceremony/healing experience with a plant medicine or psychedelic medicine, and/or processing a psychedelic experience in a therapeutic context afterwards. Harm reduction comes as a part of the education of plant medicine or psychedelic so that the participant is coming into the experience with full consent and understanding of what to look for in case help is needed. It is through a healer or clinician that we can gain tools and understandings to have the experience the medicine is offering to humanity.

Sandtray

Sandtray is a powerful, non-verbal, therapeutic technique that facilitates one’s natural capacity for healing. Sandtray uses objects and figures placed in a sandtray to create scenes of miniature worlds that reflects a person’s inner thoughts, struggles and concerns. By moving the miniatures in response to a given prompt, new insights and clarity help the client overcome their struggles.

Solution Focused Therapy

Solution Focused Therapy is a goal-focused, respectful collaborative, therapeutic approach, which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems. In the most basic sense, it is a hope friendly, positive emotion eliciting, and future-oriented vehicle for formulating, motivating, achieving, and sustaining desired change. Therapist and client carefully search through the client’s life experience and behavioral repertoire to discover the necessary resources needed to co-construct a practical and sustainable solution that the client can readily implement.

Somatic Experience (SE)

Somatic Experience (SE), “pioneered by biological physicist and psychologist Peter Levine, Ph.D., is an approach that uses internal body awareness and kinesthetic sense” (Naparstek B., Invisible Heroes) to gradually move past the parts of traumatic experience that feel stuck in the body. Trauma is often experienced as a frozen event in one’s body that will be repeated through time. Through an imagined oasis of calm and safety, the person is able to gradually dispel the traumatic reaction through responses the body wishes to make that were unavailable during the original traumatic event.

Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT)

Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT) uses a gentle acupressure pose near the bridge of the nose, gentle pressure on the occipital area at the back of the head, and stimulation of the sixth chakra point to effect a positive change. The client focuses on a particular problem, emotion, image or sensation during this pose.

Trauma Informed Therapy

Trauma Informed Therapy is a framework for understanding the impact of trauma on the mind, body and overall well-being. Specific attention and respect is given to the detrimental effects of trauma on health, relationships, thinking and behavior. Treatment serves to clear traumatic residue which often persists long after the traumatic situation or event.

2023.03.25 23:53 Potential_Ad_5905 Is It Okay to Cut Off My Sister (33f) Even If It Means Cutting Off Nieces and Nephews?

(27m)
Relationship length: Obviously since birth
Throwaway for obvious reasons.
Background: Sister has mental health issues and never was enthusiastic about getting treatment.
She was mostly non-violent toward people but would destroy things because somehow if it wasn’t “hurting” people, it was somehow “okay.” She’d randomly destroy a room in the house because she “felt” like it. One time, she even rammed a car into a garage “trying” to get away.
In more recent years, she escalated to physical violence, shoving family members, scratching them, including me.
She’s tried to use/take cars and houses she didn’t have permission to have, even trying and stealing the keys.
At one point, she was charged with assault-family violence on me and jailed for a while pending trial. This was after trying to get her to a hospital for her issues and earlier assaults on family members. She was hospitalized (unwillingly because jail was the other option the first time), then released, then eventually assaulted me.
I’ve cut her off for years. I occasionally get a gentle “she’s family” talk from family members/family friends, but she’s had so many chances to make things right and the violence was the final straw. I get the “she’s sorry” for what happened to me, but I don’t trust that. She’s a two-faced person who can totally flip her personality when different people show up.
We used to have a “great” relationship before a lot of the violence, but I realized “great” from her side was her getting what she wanted and when she wanted it. No longer benefiting her or calling her out for her obvious shortcomings even when true = bad relationship from her perspective. She can’t accept criticism or anything that casts her in a light that’s less than perfect.
She does have kids whom I adore, but I can’t foresee any relationship with her going forward. So you can see my dilemma.
TL;DR: Sister has mental health issues and has grown increasingly violent. Is it okay to cut her off even if it means cutting off her kids?

2023.03.25 23:53 L0LINAD Physician unionization: wouldn't it be nice to just see patients, again?

Despite the gradually worsening working conditions in the US healthcare system, nurses do a great job, in my opinion, of standing up for each other. It is a new age in the US healthcare system. Major healthcare systems are increasingly targeting more and more business opportunities over basic patient safety. However, nursing leadership seems to be a role model for the rest of the healthcare community for how to be collaborative about protecting their working conditions. I'm not just talking about protecting their salaries and benefits against inflation, but more importantly maintaining patient-safety needs, such as staffing ratios, supplies, etc...
Meanwhile, I'm disappointed in the contrasting ineffectiveness of general physicians' leadership, relative to nursing associations, to protect their own interests and the interests of their patients. For example, physician salaries are consistently not keeping up with inflation. Economy-wide inflation has increased by 2.1% per year from 2001-2021 while Medicare physician pay has increased just 0.5% per year on average in that same time frame. However, wage suppression is complicated. It usually has other associated cost-cutting actions, such as reduced support staff, increased patient volume, and other risk-taking changes. I'm not aware of many large RCTs showing that any major hospital system changes that increase profit lead to equivalent (or better) patient outcomes.
I don't blame it on lack of effort, but rather I question if physicians have the ability to collaborate effectively on a large scale. After all, the mentality required to get through a competitive decade (or more) of preparation, training, and testing doesn't easily switch off after completing training. As sad as it sounds, when this is combined with overloading work schedules, practicing medicine starts to feel too overwhelming to be setting aside time for advocacy. There are risks to speaking out, too. Physicians have worked long hours to attain their positions, after all. No one wants to be the first spark that ignites the change.
There are many articulate arguments against physician unionization. It is presumed that strikes and other techniques commonly used in unionization efforts to make wide-scale changes would be for the purpose of self-interest, and conclude therefore the risks to patients outweigh the benefits to physicians. In the right HR environment, this narrative could be reversed. So, what about the ethics of business interests interfering with patient safety? Then what are the ethical implications of physicians doing nothing? Which one is more important? Physicians may need to be fighting back more effectively against business interests that fly over patient interests.
Obligatory disclosure that I'm not a pilot, but my research took me to a friendly comparison of what physician unionization could look like. Look at the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA). It is the largest airline pilot union in the world. They advocate for the safety of pilots and travelers. Following the 1994 crash of USAir Flight 427, in which all 132 people on board were killed, the NTSB ruled that pilot error was the cause. But ALPA fought that decision, and in the end, it was found that a malfunction in the rudder control system of the B-737 plane was likely the cause. Subsequently, a redesign of all B-737s—the most commonly flown commercial airplane—was ordered by the FAA. Physician unionization could do that, too.
So in conclusion, the conditions for all healthcare workers are worsening. However, it is my opinion that physicians and their APPs are in a unique position to make a positive change. While physicians are struggling more and more for their patients against insurances business practices, overloads on documentation, increasing liability, worsening non-competes, wage suppression, and new patient portals facilitating increasingly unreasonable patient expectations (designed by major health systems for profit), there is an ironic lack of access to care. Now is the best opportunity for broad-scale physician unionization to protect patient safety. Wouldn't it be nice to just see patients, again?

2023.03.25 23:35 StepwiseUndrape574 Rockstar Launches GTA+ Subscription Service With Member Exclusive Benefits But Is It Worth It?

2023.03.25 23:26 VarianRydell CMV: Disliking the new Little Mermaid is not wrong

Please read in its entirety
- The constant claims that disliking the new Little Mermaid and it's trailer is racist is not only incredibly uneducated, but it amounts to nothing more than lazy propaganda.
- DISCLAIMER:
- This is not to say that there haven't been actual racist attacks on the film and on Halle Bailey, because there absolutely have been. While I don't think Halle Bailey is completely innocent in this mess, I don't believe she deserves all the backlash. Even the non racially charged hate has often gotten out of hand. However....
There is absolutely zero evidence that even half of the general negativity to this film is inherently rooted in an inherently racist ideology. Racism is based on the belief that a race or ethnic group is inherently inferior, whether it be mentally, physically, etc, and as a result you don't like them and actively discriminate towards them and display prejudice. This is not the case 95% of the Little Mermaid haters. I shall elaborate by going over the arguments the world puts out saying other otherwise, and explaining why they don't hold up
Argument 1: It's proof that it's racism because the uproar is being directed towards a fictional character
On the surface, this makes sense. Afterall, why else would people care so much about a make-believe character's skin color if they themselves were not racists? However, slightly deeper thinking will reveal that this is an invalid argument because
A. The hypocrisy
If it's a fictional character, and it doesn't matter, why are there so many examples of stupid race-related controversies surrounding both animated and live action characters that are based on non-fact-based claims of "whitewashing". Example: After actress Naomi Scott was cast as Jasmine in the 2019 live remake of "Aladdin", people bitched and moaned about her "Skin being too light". Because there's no such thing as a person of middle eastern descent with a lighter skin tone, right?! It never occurred to all these naysayers maybe she was just the right fit for the writers vision of the character as a whole, in terms of the actual WRITING OF HER ARC??? ( And yes I'm aware that Little mermaid haters keep getting accused of not giving Disney the benefit of the doubt and assuming that Halle Bailey was just the right person for the job, and I will address that in a bit) While not all of these types of controversies can be lumped together as some are more warranted than others, this is clearly something that matters to audiences, for better or for worse. So...maybe instead of jumping to the worst and most brain dead of conclusions, actually think about or investigate why fans are reacting this way
B. How obviously biased must one not even consider the power of nostalgia
As tiresome or small this point may be, it is incredibly relevant. I continue to be baffled by how much power nostalgia holds over people, and how it deeply affects our minds in ways that can be both objectively and subjectively problematic . It affects our emotions and perceptions in so many varied and confusing ways, and when it comes to a big nostalgia factor, for many( particularly millennials), Old school Disney is as powerful as it gets. This is a big part of why I take issue with people who make fun of fans for complaining about the film, especially the red hair who are like "OOOO Halle Bailey looks fabulous, get it over it" because 9 times out of 10, I've discovered that they don't have a strong nostalgic connection to the film, if they even liked the old film at all. No kidding, a lot of those people have animosity towards the old film. Obviously, there are tons of examples of long time lovers of the movie being fine with or promoting black Ariel, and even Halle Bailey herself adored the movie as a child. But it is a pattern to notice with these labelers and accusers
It's also vital to know that the nostalgia to animation is very different from live action. Especially if you were one of probably thousands who mercilessly rewatched these beloved Disney classics, then you've perhaps become deeply familiar with and even connected with everything from certain obscure lines of dialogue or music, to specific animations sequences and images. It's not easily describable or rational, because feelings aren't rational( also, the whole point of film is to evoke, move or persuade emotion) Details of those images connect with your brain, and that is gonna include the skin color. It's just part of the iconic character design. Plus, generally, different ethnic groups have different specific variations of certain facial features. Considering that the most cosplay accurate looking white person would still look very different from a cartoon woman, changing the race changes a lot of the appearance beyond skin color. Now, there are loads of people who are not naturally that visually entranced or connected or visually observant with the world, especially with movies. Plenty of people can look beyond that type of change as long as the spirit of the character is the same, but that doesn't mean that the feelings of the film purists should be invalidated by being called names. As mentioned, we are dealing with very complicated psychology of media consumption, and so easily linking that nostalgia with one of the darkest tragedies of humanity is not only false, but it demonstrates the same lazy black and white thinking that leads to division among humanity as a whole, let alone just ethnic groups. Yes, that purist mindset often leads to toxic and regressive behavior, but if it is the unhealthy purist mindset that says it must be exactly like the original, which it IS, then, ipso facto, that would mean that this "discriminatory behavior"(AKA...disliking a movie trailer and creating a ridiculous twitter hashtag?????) is rooted in just that, a toxic purist mindset, not in a racist ideology. Saying otherwise would imply that these Little mermaid haters have something against Black people as a whole, which, again, we don't have proof of because we don't know these people personally!!! You can't attach an entire world view to these people! On that logic, anyone could get labeled anything for any reason, and there would never be any freedom of expression or speech. Again, yes, there have been documented racist comments, as well as alleged nasty comments in regards to the upcoming film. But that is not even close to enough evidence that racists make up the majority, especially when there are tons of people who have voiced actual solid reasons for not liking the film.
C. It's a ridiculous argument because if a fictional character's skin tone is important, then why should anyone feel as though it's special or significant to have a black actress playing a titular role giving all this "great representation". Not saying I don't think representing different cultures or ethnicities isn't important in the media. It absolutely is, and I'd argue it's the representation we should be seeing more of, specially a harmony and peace between different cultures. It's just odd that they talk out of both sides of their mouth. One side says "be color blind" and the other side says "representation must be prioritized above all else". More on this a bit later
D. Most of the negative commentary of the movie that is related to Ariel's skin tone is in regards to the popular opinion of this film being used to promote race in a political light. The commentary is not given in the context of the skin tone actually being "preferably undesirable" to them personally. A huge portion of the most more personal complaints of the film, especially talking about after this latest full trailer premiered at the Oscars, have been the following thundering utterances
  1. Dim, color-washed lighting and color grading
  2. Photorealistic fish doesn't work
  3. Bad underwater effects overall, like with the swimming
Speaking of the political side of things, Let's finally address that side of the conversation as we tackle the next two arguments. This where we can get some more reasons behind the dislike of the race other than just the aforementioned nostalgia
Argument 2: It must be racism because this type of backlash is always connected to projects that promote diversity
(Hmmm that's interesting. The word "promotes" implies an agenda, positive or negative. But wasn't this supposed to be a color-blind casting? Isn't color supposed to be irrelevant to a made up fish Lady)
Argument 3: Having a black Ariel is great positive representation
Though these arguments are different, they are subtextually connected enough so that my responses to them kind intercept and merge together, so I will address them as one argument
I shall first clarify that I do not believe that race swapping is inherently objectively problematic or objectively a bad artistic choice. Limiting the scope of your talent singularly on race is stupid. I believe that wholesome ethnic and racial representation is important for younger children, while constant demand for representation among adults nowadays, regardless of intent, often borders on a toxic over obsession borne out of narcissism. I also have to mention that I did find it quite moving seeing the reactions of little black girls happily noticing that the titular character resembled them.
However, there are several things to understand and remember in regards to Race Swapping
A. Characters should not be race swapped just for the sake of diversity, but because they are best role for the part
B. Race swapping is not inherently equal to good representation, even though it can be good. It's not inherently negative representation either
C. It should still be understood and respected that race swapping ( Which regardless of the constant gaslighting IS a form of erasing history) is going to be an emotional trigger for fans, and that should be acknowledged and respected, not demonized
To understand why Race Swapping is generally frowned upon and viewed as being political, we must first establish that Hollywood does
  1. pay media news outlets to write biased or false articles for damage control if a film or show doesn’t seem to being well or to clear up their image
  2. Hollywood does indeed throw social and identity politics into their products not only to reflect their own values, but to pander and/or appeal to specific audiences and social trends, only with money in mind and not ethics.
This might seem bleedingly obvious to some, but for many moviegoers, these two points are denied or called conspiracy theories.
Now this is in part to be expected. Hollywood is, well, a business. Its focus is to make money, primarily by appealing to what’s popular. However, where it becomes increasingly problematic is it comes at the expense of audience members that Hollywood highlights by insisting that they are being represented.
Coming from a black person, I can say that most of the most prominent and strongest voices of the “Haters'' club has been other African Americans, who like me, are passionate Disney fans who want to see more racially diverse characters, specifically black people, at the forefront of stories. These raceswaps culturally appropriates and rewrite European characters while rubbing in our faces that our chances for representation in Disney's animated canon will keep getting denied by patronizing us, saying that we are being given a great gift.
Let us look at the race swapping of Hermione Granger in “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”
Many people, including myself, were happy and intrigued at this new interpretation of the the classic trio, However, Hermione is canonically white, and this was at a time where JK Rowling's reliance on what was true and false in Harry potter was not at all trustworthy, which made the situation more suspicious and messy. The race Swap felt ingenuine and politically calculated
Argument 4: Changing the ethnicity shouldn’t take you out of the experience because it is a Mermaid, and mermaids are not real.
Clearly, you do not understand how immersion works. We can easily suspend our disbelief, as we know that the fictional world is different from our own as long as everything in the world is consistent. The remake is supposed to be recreating that world, which means having such a huge change will take many people out of the experience. Rationally, it is true that we can’t expect a remake to be just like the original, otherwise it would be pointless and pathetic. However, it is more than understandable and fair to have those feelings because remakes are made with audiences that the studios are literally COUNTING ON TO HAVE SEEN THIS BEFORE in mind!!!!!!!!!! Of course we are going to compare the character design!
In summary, Disliking the Live action Little Mermaid is not racism, it is valid criticism, despite a few undeniable bad apples in the bunch

2023.03.25 23:09 transdimensionalmeme Do we have good, gpu accelerated, text-to-speech, speech-to-text, image/video-to-text face/object recognition that is open source and self-hosted ?

I've seen mycroft text to speech and last time I checked it was the best. However I found the speech cadence a bit unsettling. I didn't see how to make speech to text work and it did not have any image recognition capabilities
What I would like to do, is have those functionalities and pair them with my self-hosted AI models such as Bloom, Llama, Alapaca, Chinchilla, Palm and the like. I feel these models would be far more useful with those capabilities.
Like I have many thousands of pictures to sort, I would like to tell my AI to, " look at all images in a specific folder, and copy each of them in an appropriate folder named one of the following, objets, landscapes or scenes, my family members, my friends, in my garage, PCBs, computer screenshots"
I think the AI models are already capable to do something like this with some scripting help. But general text to speech, speech recognition and image recognition web services, running on proxmox with gpu partitionning would be the way to go to keep this system flexible.
I would also like to be able to make bash script that do things like "for picture return X/Y position of all faces" or ls *.jpg grep -ai "picture of cars"
Looking at the awesome self hosted list I did find the following projects that do some basic object/face recognition, but they aren't dedicated services they are mostly image gallerie and fully features applications, not something I could summon from the command line, and there are few of them, are there more ?

2023.03.25 23:03 lazy-tapir A letter to my Dad

My dad and I have been discussing the Church's racist priesthood/temple ban. I have written a response, what I need help with is making sure my tone and text is directed at doctrine and church stuff and limits things that could be construed as a personal attack. It's long but any feed back would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
Thanks for a well-thought-out and respectful reply. I appreciate your time and commitment to our conversation. My thoughts about this came fast and furious; I have been thinking about this subject long and hard, wrestling with concepts and philosophies for the better part of 3 years. I had a lot of emotions (anger, sadness, frustration, loss, grief) when I first started my research. I was bitter (the things I had to work through were also bitter). These feelings have relaxed with time, and I am comfortable with my decisions. Contentment and peace are once more the baselines for me. Okay, so let me respond to some of your points:
Scriptural Justification for Priesthood ban-
This is my paraphrase and interpretation of each verse you sent me:
Genesis 4: 9-11, 13, 15
Cain is being punished for his sin of killing his brother Abel (I have no qualms with his punishment for sin). I read nothing in these verses about anyone else being punished, especially not someone 5,500+/- years from the actual sin.
Moses 5: 16, 18-19, 21-26, 28-40, 41
16: Cain is taught the gospel and nature of God, he questions/rejects it.
18-19: Cain has a relationship with Satan and follows his commands. Cain gives fruit as sacrifice instead of the prescribed animal flesh
21-26: The offering is rejected, this makes Satan happy and Cain sad/wroth; the Lord asks Cain why he is angry and sad, then the Lord says if you do what I ask you will be accepted but if you don't: sin and Satan are waiting for you. Cain then becomes the Father of Lies, he gets cursed unless he repeats. Cain doubles down, marries his brother's daughter and makes oaths with Satan. Cain gives himself a new name and conspires to kill Abel and accomplishes the task.
  1. Genesis 4: 9-11, 13 ,15 again; Cain explains why he acted the way he did. Cain experiences the consequence of sin. Again no mention of punishing/cursing people 5,500+/- years for these actions.
Moses 7: 8, 22
8- Enoch prophesies that the Lord will curse the people of Canaan with blackness for destroying the people of Shum
22- Black people don't have a place amoung the seed of Adam. (Classic 19th century racism)
Abraham 1: 21-24, 26-27, 31
21-24: All of Egypt descends from Ham and his wife Egyptus (who was a Canaanite) they preserve the "curse".
26 Pharoh was righteous, wise and just but was cursed to not have the Priesthood because his great x 7ish grandpa murdered and conspired with Satan.
27 Pharoh denied the priesthood despite being the grandson of Noah and the eldest son of his family.
This curse of Cain = why Black people are reduced to servitude and restriction in the Kingdom of God is a common belief amoung Christians in the early 1800s. It is in my opinion the philosophy of men mingled with scripture.
To this point, I believe that the books of Moses and Abraham are 19th Century works. Eygptologist, apologists for the Church and the Church itself admits that the translation of the Abraham papyrus is not anywhere close to accurate. The papyri that came into Joseph's possession were common Eygptian funerary texts and not written by the hand of Abraham. Given that I have no faith that these texts are scripture, I believe that Joseph Smith was using psuedepigraphia to create them; it is hard for me to accept these concepts/doctrines are from God. As far as psuedepigraphia goes I am in agreement with faithful LDS historian and author of Rough Stone Rolling, a biography about Joseph Smith, Richard Bushman. VIDEO CLIP LINK, a quote from the link for your convience: "Joseph Smith's books of Moses and Abraham and the writings of Enoch in the book of Moses bear a resemblance to this large corpus of scriptures in that they came in the form of writings in another person's name. Joseph was producing psuedepigraphia." I am not arguing that your interpretation of the scriptures is wrong, I am arguing that the teaching of the curse of the lineage of Cain and Africans being banned from temple/priesthood comes from works produced in the 19th century and are not doctrinal or Scriptural. These doctrines are racist to the core and I do not believe in a racist God.
Apostles and Prophets aren’t perfect- I agree, but I do expect them to be good. If one Prophet/Apostle makes errors, I hope the others will help to course correct (ln our current example, it shouldn’t take 158 years), especially given their commission to be special witnesses of Christ.
Spiritual Answers - Receiving answers from God has always been a sticking point for me; there are so many times when I wish feelings could be a reliable way to detect or determine the truth about a particular idea or course of action. Unfortunately, feelings are not a reliable or accurate way of determining validity. Many people from different world views and cultures will testify that they have received a Divine Witness that their way is correct and there are no others.
https://youtu.be/UJMSU8Qj6Go (this video has members of Islam, Catholicism, Judaism, Heaven’s Gate, Latter-Day Saints, two different Brighamite LDS church off-shoots, Wiccans, Budahism, Jonestown, Seventh Day Adventists, Scientology, and maybe 1 or 2 more, each testify something to the effect of: I asked God and he told me the way.)
So many different witnesses say they know something by how they feel. If Joseph Smith was right and the gospel revealed through him is God’s one authentic way, how are so many getting witnesses that their way is also valid? I have learned and internalized that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. I trust that He would not be sending witnesses to some people of the truthfulness of Islam and others the truthfulness of Scientology. In my search for truth: evidence, reproducible results, and facts are more important to me than feelings. A recent example of this at the top levels of the Church came in November 2015; the Church changed its policy as it regards LGTBQ+ members and same-sex marriage defining such as apostasy. With that, the children of these marriages and partnerships, whether adopted or naturally born, were prohibited from baptism until their 18th birthday, required to denounce same-sex marriage, and received approval from the First Presidency.
Russell M. Nelson, at the time the President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on Jan. 10, 2016, said
“We met repeatedly in the temple in fasting and prayer and sought further direction and inspiration. And then, when the Lord inspired His prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, to declare the mind of the Lord and the will of the Lord, each of us, during that sacred moment, felt a spiritual confirmation. It was our privilege as Apostles to sustain what had been revealed to President Monson. Revelation from the Lord to His servants is a sacred process, and so is your privilege of receiving personal revelation.” --Becoming True Millenials.

Later in 2019, when the Church reversed the policy, the press release used similiar language that the highest councils in the Church had sought the Lord’s will and thus saith the Lord, reverse the policy.
“These policy changes come after an extended period of counseling with our brethren in the Quorum the Twelve Apostles after fervent, united prayer to understand the will of the Lord,” wrote President Russell M. Nelson and his counselors in the First Presidency, President Oaks and President Henry B. Eyring, in the statement” -- https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/church/news/policy-changes-announced-for-members-in-gay-marriages-children-of-lgbt-parents?lang=eng
I struggled with this in my dark night of the soul as the foundations of my faith crumbled around me. I read scripture, I fasted, I prayed, I counseled with Amy and Bishops, I wrestled and prayed some more. No sure knowledge came; not even unsure knowledge was given. That’s when I stepped back and looked at the evidence. Matthew 7: 18-20 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
When I read quotes from Mark E. Peterson or even this one talk http://www.mormonthink.com/files/race-problems-affect-the-church-mark-e-peterson.pdf those are rancid fruits
When I read that the Church amassed a $100,000,000,000+ fund from excess tithe dollars and then used deceitful/dishonest reporting practices to hide it from members and the public (https://www.sec.gov/litigation/admin/2023/34-96951.pdf), those are sour fruits.
When leaders tell youth in private firesides
“I don’t mean to be a little over-simplistic, but sometimes I just think that we make things too complicated,” Wilcox said. “Why didn’t the Blacks get the priesthood until 1978? What’s up with that, Brother Wilcox? What, Latter-day Saints were prejudiced? What, [then-church President] Brigham Young was a jerk? I mean, you’ll hear a lot of things. But maybe we’re asking the wrong question. Maybe instead of asking why didn’t the Blacks get the priesthood until ’78, we should be asking why didn’t everybody else get it before 1829?”
-Brad Wilcox, 2nd Councilor General Young Mens Presidency, in multiple firesides to thousands of youth over the years.
That is bad fruit.
When Bishops have sexual abuse reported to them, they, the bishops, are instructed to call Abuse Hotlines connecting them to Kirton McConkie lawyers, who then advise not to involve the police, protecting abusers and not victims (https://apnews.com/article/Mormon-church-sexual-abuse-investigation-e0e39cf9aa4fbe0d8c1442033b894660). Those are rotten fruits.
When I read about Nephi justifying murder to obtain brass plates, those are bad fruits. (This very justification leads extremists like the Lafferty Brothers and Daybell/Vallow to commit heinous crimes and pass the blame to God because they felt he had told them to do it) Joseph Smith taught this concept in a written letter (a failed polygamous marriage proposal) to the daughter of Sidney Rigdon, 19-year-old Nancy Rigdon. In this letter, often called the Happiness Letter, Joseph states: “That which is wrong under one circumstance, maybe, and often is right under another… Whatever God requires is right, no matter what it is.” The whole letter bears bad fruit considering its teachings of moral relativism and the fact that it was written to Nancy after she denied his proposal to convince her to become his 9th wife.
The priesthood/temple ordinance/exaltation ban on our African brothers and sisters is just one bad apple amongst a spoiled bunch. The list can go on, and I don’t expect you to have answers or even a response. I guess the underlying questions I have is how do I connect to God, what are his commandments for me, and who do I allow to be his spoken person in my life? I do not believe that person is Brigham Young, Joseph Smith, or Russell Nelson; there is too much baggage there for me to overlook. Bible introduces us to a very dualistic God, the God of the Old Testament that commanded Abraham to sacrifice his son (even though he didn’t go through with it, Abraham didn’t know that, and if someone told you today that God had commanded them to kill their son, I don’t think we would use it as a Spiritually Uplifting Story); that commanded the Israelites to commit genocide; that killed boys for mocking a bald man; that commands a married man to marry underage women and other married women with the threat of an angel with a flaming sword (I know this is from modern church history, but I think it fits here) vs. Jesus of the New Testament who preached turn the other cheek, love thy neighbor as thy self, love your enemy and those that despitefully use, let your light so shine, he that is without sin among you cast the first stone, go and sin no more. These two narratives don’t play well with one another in my mind. When push comes to shove, I choose the humanistic, humble, passivist, sinner-loving Jesus as my path to God; and through no other man. I veered off topic slightly, but I also believe this is a good summary of where I am as it relates to the Church. I could pull more examples of why I am where I am, but I don’t want to pile on. I hope you understand that I don’t just have one or two minor questions about the Church being true, but my questions lay at the very feet of Joseph Smith; as Gordon B Hinkley said: “There is no middle ground. Joseph Smith talked with the Father and the Son or he didn’t. If he didn’t, then we are embraced in a great fraud, a terrible fraud.” (“Counsel from the Prophet,” Church News, 4/27/96, 4) “Our whole strength rests on the validity of that vision. It either occurred or it did not occur. If it did not, then this work is a fraud… upon that unique and wonderful experience stands the validity of this church” (“The Marvelous Foundation of our Faith,” Ensign [Conference Edition], November 2002, 80) “You and I are faced with the stark question of accepting the truth of the First Vision and that which followed it. On the question of its reality lies the very validity of this Church.” (“The Stone Cut Out of the Mountain,” Ensign [Conference Edition],
